Currently, local farmers are focusing on planting the winter-spring rice crop. By June 24, farmers had sown about 500 hectares of seedlings, with the tillage rate reaching 75-80% of the total cultivated area in the province.
This year, farmers planted more than 13,200 hectares of early-season rice, planting short-term rice varieties such as KD18, TBR279, TBR97... at the foot of highlands, expected to harvest before October 5, 2024 to plant early winter crops (accounting for 25% of the rice area). The whole province planted 35,500 hectares of medium-season rice at the foot of lowlands (accounting for 67%), the rest is late-season rice area including specialty glutinous rice varieties. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that farmers finish planting early-season rice before June 30, mid-season rice before July 10, and late-season rice before July 20 to limit the impact of flooding that often occurs in late July and early August.
To ensure the rice production plan for the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop and proactively implement the plan for the winter-spring crop, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that local specialized agencies direct agricultural service cooperatives and households to mobilize traction, prioritize renting large tractors to speed up the land preparation process. It is recommended to apply basal fertilizer before planting according to the process, apply deep basal fertilizer, apply enough fertilizer, balance N, P, K. Plant rice varieties with high yield, good quality, adapt to the weather and have the ability to resist pests and diseases. Limit the use of rice varieties that are susceptible to bacterial leaf blight, yellowing disease, black-striped dwarf disease, and are less susceptible to planthoppers in the crop. Strive to expand the area of tray seedling, machine planting, seedling area on hard ground, and direct sowing area in places with proactive irrigation conditions. Expand the production area of concentrated rice areas "one area - one variety - one time" to facilitate care, pest control and application of technical advances...
Previously, by June 20, the entire province had completed harvesting winter-spring rice. This year's winter-spring crop, the weather was basically favorable, so the rice grew and developed well, with few pests and diseases. The average rice yield in Hai Duong province reached 67.1 quintals/ha, an increase of nearly 2 quintals/ha compared to the same period last year.
