Luc Yen focuses on early rice production

For the 2025 early-season rice crop, Luc Yen district was assigned a production target of 1,000 hectares. To ensure the progress of sowing and planting is completed in June as planned, in recent days, taking advantage of favorable weather, the district has directed the agricultural sector to coordinate with communes and towns to step up propaganda and mobilize people to focus on harvesting spring rice to produce the early-season crop.

Accordingly, in the early rice crop of 2025, Luc Yen district will implement it in 10 communes: Muong Lai 120ha, Vinh Lac 100ha, Lieu Do 100ha, Mai Son 100ha, Lam Thuong 200ha, Minh Xuan 100ha, Khanh Thien 100ha, Tan Linh 100ha, Yen Thang 50ha and Minh Chuan 30ha. The main planting area is concentrated on the fields of 2 rice crops and winter vegetables are also grown because these are convenient areas for irrigation water, transportation, materials and post-harvest products.

Ms. Nguyen Hong Nhung - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Luc Yen district said: "In order for the winter-spring rice crop to ripen early, ensuring the time for winter-spring vegetable production according to the crop calendar, the Department has directed the communes to accompany the people to take advantage of favorable weather to quickly harvest rice, corn, and spring peanuts on rice fields, especially in areas encroached on lakes, along rivers and streams, only need the rice to ripen to 80% to urgently harvest according to the motto "green house is better than ripe field" to avoid damage due to early floods and to produce the early winter-spring rice crop on schedule. At the same time, people also focus on repairing and dredging canals; prioritize water supply in advance for fields producing early winter-spring crops to have time to prepare the land and plant within the prescribed time frame to be completed in June".

In addition to speeding up the spring rice harvest, the district has also directed people to proactively sow rice seedlings from June 1 to June 15 to be able to transplant in mid- and late June with the main variety structure being short-term rice varieties such as Thien Uu 8, HT1, Bac Thom, J02... along with applying tray-throwing technology, sowing rice seedlings on hard, scoopable ground for convenient sowing and transplanting.

Ms. Hoang Thi Mai, Tong Ping Cai village, Lam Thuong commune shared: "My family has 5 sao of rice fields, every year we grow 2 rice crops and winter vegetables. In 2025, to ensure smooth production according to the district's general crop calendar, in the spring crop, I planted Nghi Huong 305 rice variety, which ripens about 1 week earlier than some other rice varieties. I have finished harvesting and am preparing the land for the winter crop in late June. In the winter crop, I switched to planting HT1 variety to ensure early ripening, good resistance to pests and diseases, high yield, and stable rice output for family living and livestock, while also using land to plant winter crops. I sowed rice seedlings in mid-June, and it will be ready for planting in just a few days."

In addition to early season rice, the main season rice accounts for over 65% of the total cultivated area of ​​the whole district, so to ensure productivity and output, people have also prepared the necessary conditions and materials to sow rice seedlings in late June and early July with hybrid rice varieties such as Nhi Uu 838, Viet Lai 20, CP134, Thai Xuyen 111 and pure rice varieties Thien Uu 8, Bac Thom No. 7 resistant to bacterial leaf blight, J02, VNR20, TBR225, Khang Dan 18, sticky rice...

At the same time, the District Department of Agriculture and Environment has also increased the number of staff sent to the grassroots to coordinate with the authorities of communes and towns to direct production, guide and propagate the techniques of sowing seedlings in trays, seedlings on hard ground, planting techniques according to the improved SRI method and preventing drought and flooding for crops; established an interdisciplinary working group, checked the quality of seeds, fertilizers, agricultural materials, promptly handled violations in the business of poor quality seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural materials so that people could ensure effective production.

Along with the participation of the entire political system in directing and propagating crop production activities to ensure compliance with the general crop calendar, people have actively mechanized land preparation; applied scientific and technical advances to production and intensive farming such as: using manure, organic microbial fertilizers, deep-planted pellet fertilizers, lime to neutralize acidity and remove alum from fields; and prevented and controlled pests with the right drugs and dosages, so that the 2025 crop will continue to be successful.
