The 3.5km Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway passes through a cool mangrove forest

Dong Nai – The Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway, the eastern branch, connecting the Southeast and Southwest regions, passing through Dong Nai province, is 27 km long, of which more than 3.5 km passes through mangrove forests and is about to be put into use after 7 years of construction.

The Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway project, the eastern branch, through Dong Nai province, has 3 packages including package A5, package A6 and package A7 with a total length of 27 km. Of which, some sections of the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway run through complex geological areas, with many rivers, swamps and more than 3.5 km through mangrove forests in Long Thanh district and Nhon Trach district of Dong Nai province.

The forest section through Phuoc Thai commune, part of the A7 package from the Thi Vai river bank to Highway 51, passes through a mangrove forest with patches of mangrove and acacia trees that look very green.

Mr. Dang Huu Vi - Director of the Southern Expressway Project Management Board said that the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway has about 3.5 km passing through the mangrove forest in Long Thanh and Nhon Trach districts of Dong Nai province. Therefore, during the construction process, about 10 hectares of forest were affected. "We have to plant replacement forests to restore about 15 hectares of forest," said Mr. Vi.

Currently, the A7 package of the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway project has gradually taken shape, the road has been paved with asphalt, and the remaining traffic safety items are being implemented, including installing anti-glare panels, road markings, signs, etc.

Currently, the investor and contractor are determined to complete the entire A7 package in July 2024 to put it into use. Mr. Nguyen Thien Dat - Executive Director of A7 package - said that the construction progress of this package has reached more than 90%. It is expected that the entire package will be completed this July.

The Thi Vai Bridge construction item, identified as the progress critical line of the A7 package, has also officially closed with a length of 3.3 km, including the Thi Vai River overpass and the viaduct connecting the National Highway 51 intersection. The bridge has 77 piers, including 4 piers under the Thi Vai River. According to the design, the Thi Vai Bridge has a clearance of 9m, ensuring the safe passage of large ships and barges.

The total investment for Thi Vai bridge and the overpass is more than 720 billion VND out of the total investment of more than 1,100 billion VND for the entire A7 package. After the closing date, the construction unit continued to lay asphalt and made efforts to complete the sub-items of Thi Vai bridge and the entire A7 package.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thien Dat, the construction process of Thi Vai bridge encountered many difficulties due to hard rocks under the riverbed, broken drill bits many times, and increased costs.

The Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway has a starting point passing through Ben Luc district, Long An province, nearly 5 km long, then connecting with Long Thanh district to National Highway 51 to Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces. The entire Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway is 57.8 km long with a total initial investment of 31,320 billion VND. Currently, the investor is focusing on construction work as committed according to the plan, expected to be completed in September 2025.
