Coach Kim Sang-sik eliminated Dang Van Lam

On the afternoon of December 5, coach Kim Sang-sik announced the list of the Vietnamese team participating in the AFF Cup 2024. The Korean coach was forced to remove Dang Van Lam. This goalkeeper did not recover from his injury in time to ensure his position in the Vietnamese team. He had many difficulties recovering from his injury and Tran Trung Kien was chosen to replace him.

The remaining 6 players eliminated are midfielders Phan Van Duc, Nguyen Van Truong, Tran Bao Toan, Nguyen Thai Son, strikers Nguyen Dinh Bac and Nguyen Quoc Viet. Of which, Thai Son and Bao Toan did not play a single minute in the 3 friendly matches in Korea.

Dang Van Lam was eliminated from the Vietnam national team.

The remaining players, except for Phan Van Duc and Tran Bao Toan who are over 23 years old, are all young faces with great potential for development.

Being given the opportunity to train with the national team will help them accumulate valuable experience, thereby gradually striving to become a quality next generation towards the future, including the 2026 U23 Asian Qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games which will take place in 2025.

Tonight, a group of 3 players from Nam Dinh Club including defender Nguyen Van Vi, striker Nguyen Xuan Son and Nguyen Van Toan will join the Vietnam national team. This trio has just completed their duties for their home club in the 2024/25 AFC Champions League Two Group Stage.

Vietnam is in Group B with the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar and Laos. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team are aiming to reach the final of the tournament. Vietnam will play their opening match against Laos on December 9. The official list of 26 players for the tournament will be announced on December 5.

On the morning of December 6, the team will leave for Laos to prepare for the opening match in Group B of the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship against the host country's team. This match will take place at 8:00 p.m. on December 9 at the Laos National Stadium.
