It is noteworthy that coach Patrick Kluivert did not return to Indonesia after the match with Iraq on the morning of October 12. Instead, this coach flew straight from Saudi Arabia (where the match took place) back to Europe.
The information about coach Patrick Kluivert returning to the Netherlands was confirmed by the head of the Indonesian team, Sumardji, to the country's media at Soekarno-Hatta airport in Jakarta (Indonesia) yesterday morning (October 13).

The Indonesian team had set a goal of reaching the final round of the 2026 World Cup. They appointed coach Kluivert to replace coach Shin Tae Yong (Korean) at the beginning of the year, with the aim of taking advantage of Mr. Kluivert's reputation, creating a voice with the naturalized players of Dutch origin in the Indonesian team.
However, coach Patrick Kluivert was disappointing. His experience at the top level was quite modest, causing the Indonesian team to lack variation in their playing style.
In the 4th round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia, the Indonesian team lost both matches against Saudi Arabia (2-3) and Iraq (0-1), before they were eliminated early.
Currently, the pressure to fire coach Kluivert from Indonesian public opinion is very strong. CNN Indonesia reported: “The keyword Kluivert is one of the hottest keywords on social networks in Indonesia today. Mr. Kluivert's position in the team of the archipelago is under serious threat.”

Even the head of the Indonesian football delegation, Sumardji, did not avoid this issue. Mr. Sumardji spoke up: "The issue related to the future of coach Patrick Kluivert, as far as I know, will be decided at the meeting of the Executive Committee (EC) of the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) in the next few days."
Coach Patrick Kluivert has led the Indonesian team since January this year, going through a total of 8 matches. He won 3, lost 4 and drew 1, scoring 9 goals and conceding 15.
It is worth noting that Indonesia's three victories under coach Kluivert were only unconvincing victories against Bahrain (1-0, World Cup qualifiers), China (1-0, World Cup qualifiers), and Taiwan (6-0, friendly).
On the contrary, the team's losses were all important matches, against Australia (1-5), Japan (0-6), Saudi Arabia (2-3) and Iraq (0-1) in the World Cup qualifiers.
