What solution overcomes pressure?

According to writer and journalist Hoang Anh Tu (former Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Student Newspaper, known by the pen name "Anh Chanh Van"), final year students are facing a lot of pressure from parents, friends, social networks and themselves.

Senior students shared that they face a lot of pressure and anxiety.

“Some students shared that: for them, every meal with their parents is truly “torture”; not because their parents scold them, but because their parents show excessive worry and expectations of them. Sentences that usually show concern such as: “Eat a lot to gain strength to study and take exams” make them feel extremely pressured. Along with that are stories interwoven with praise and admiration for “other people’s children” and “stuffing” their heads with expectations and hopes. Those things become an obsession for many students,” writer and journalist Hoang Anh Tu shared.

Associate Professor Dr. Phan Thi Thanh Thao, education expert, Principal of Thanh Do University, said that in the current digital age, students are also facing great pressure from social networks. Every day, they are exposed to and have access to countless information on social networks, such as about someone's path to success; about how to study to get high scores; about whether or not they need to study a lot to be successful; about movies that only show advantages... Such information more or less confuses students, not knowing where to start or which direction to go.

In response to students' questions, worries, and pressures, writer and journalist Hoang Anh Tu shared: worries are always the same and students in different countries have the same worries. These are the worries of thoughtful people. Students need to be calm to face and resolve them, and remember that worries can only be resolved when they dare to express them to their parents, teachers, friends, experts, etc.

“Whenever under pressure, students can ask themselves: “What should I do to be more confident?” and do it the way they think; for example, equipping themselves with a small notebook; both to write down necessary useful things and to express their wishes or cherished ideas that need to be realized...”, Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Thanh Thao suggested.

Identify your strengths

According to Nguyen Phuong Chi, CEO of Vinamont Consulting and Training Co., Ltd., when friends around them achieve many achievements or have good results, instead of being jealous and self-conscious, students should open their hearts and send congratulations to their friends to have better connections. Then, their learning opportunities will increase. Positive behavior and emotions can be the way to bring them closer to success.

Experts answer and share students' concerns.

If you are implementing any roadmap, divide it into short stages and measure and evaluate whether you have done it correctly and well; whether you can make further progress. During that process, you can share and rely on people you trust for support and encouragement.

Student Nguyen Hai Binh, Viet Hoang High School (Hoai Duc) confided: "I consider myself an average student, so I am wondering whether I should choose a high-ranking school or a middle-ranking school to limit risks?"

Circle the fields that match your strengths, from there choose a suitable major. It is better to follow what you are good at than to chase after unrealistic things. After determining your field, you will choose a school based on the factors you set out such as: proximity to home, training quality, right orientation... Entering university is just the beginning, there are still many skills you need to learn to supplement, so you need to choose the most suitable major to be able to promote your strengths."

Sharing the same opinion, Associate Professor Dr. Phan Thi Thanh Thao advised students to choose the right major before choosing a school, because sometimes the school is only temporary but the major will follow them for life. To choose the right major, students should talk to teachers, friends, and parents to seek advice. In addition, they can participate in thinking and career orientation tests to get clearer orientation. Each student should also find out information about the profession on the website and official information channels of the training institution or through the press to access and have more useful information sources.

 

On the afternoon of December 15, Thanh Do University coordinated with Tuoi Tre Thu Do Newspaper to organize a talk show “Accompanying senior students: Strong mentality, welcoming the future”. The talk show is the opening event of the project “Accompanying senior students” founded by Thanh Do University. The project has the participation of nearly 20 consulting experts, directly answering questions from parents and students about choosing a career, effective learning methods, methods to reduce pressure before exams, university admission methods, etc.
