City Farmers' Association promotes core role in new rural construction

After the provincial level merger and implementation of a two-level local government, currently, the Hai Phong City Farmers' Association has 107/114 communes, wards, and special zones with Farmers' Associations. The City Farmers' Association focuses on perfecting the association's staff work according to regulations; maintaining the effective operation of 2,584 branches; the number of members participating in activities reaches more than 85% of farmers in the whole city.

Farmers' associations at all levels mobilize farmers to respond to and promote the movement "Farmers compete in good production and business, unite to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably", becoming a widespread patriotic emulation movement, a key movement of the Association. Specifically, every year, 60% or more of farming households register to strive to achieve the title of good production and business at all levels. Many good production and business households are typical examples with good initiatives, creative ways of doing things, mutual support, assistance, and assistance to farmers in difficult circumstances. The city maintains a city-level good production and business club. In the period of 2023 - 2025, out of a total of more than 783,000 registered households, 345,439 households achieved the title of good production and business at all levels, reaching 40% of the number of registered households.

To create conditions for members to develop production and business, the Association coordinates with functional units to focus on training, raising awareness and knowledge of members on agricultural economic development models such as: planting, raising livestock, aquaculture, seedling production, processing and consumption of agricultural products.

The City Farmers' Association manages and regularly maintains the total capital of the Farmers' Support Fund, with 178 billion VND for 853 projects, 4,448 households borrowing capital to develop production. The Associations at all levels focus on praising farmers who are good at production, business, and excellent farmers, promptly rewarding collectives and individuals with achievements in the movement, contributing to promoting the emulation movement to be more effective and practical.

Pioneering in new rural construction

In recent years, the Association at all levels has actively promoted its role as representative of the peasant class, the subject in participating in the construction of new rural areas and model new rural areas. The Association at all levels has mobilized farmers to donate 531,296 ^m2 of residential land and cultivated land; contributed 4,651 billion VND and 120,087 working days; renovated and repaired 2,540 km of rural roads; solidified 101 km of intra-field canals; repaired and built 99 new bridges and irrigation culverts, contributing to the construction and maintenance of rural infrastructure.

Along with directly mobilizing farmers to participate in building new rural areas, model new rural areas and advanced rural areas, farmers' associations at all levels have linked this movement with the implementation of the Campaign "All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas". Farmers' associations at all levels have newly built and effectively maintained many models of "Farmers participating in environmental protection", "Farmers' tree rows and flower roads", built tanks to collect pesticide packaging in the fields...

Up to now, after the city's merger, the task of building new rural areas has been completed, 100% (equivalent to 67/67 communes) have basically completed the new rural criteria, 33% (equivalent to 22/67 communes) have basically completed the advanced new rural criteria; 6% (equivalent to 4/67 communes) have basically completed the model new rural criteria... The material and spiritual life of people in rural areas has been constantly improved. In the East of the city, there are currently no poor households. In the West of the city, the rate of poor households in rural areas has decreased to 1.3%.

In the coming time, entering the breakthrough development period of the city and the country, the City Farmers' Association determined: Continue to build a strong association organization; cadres, members, farmers determined to develop agriculture , modern countryside, civilized farmers.
