World golf legend Greg Norman is Vietnam Tourism Ambassador

(Dan Tri) - Mr. Gregory John Norman (abbreviated as Greg Norman), world golf legend, was appointed as Vietnam Tourism Ambassador for the 2025-2030 term.

On the morning of July 18 in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Culture , Sports and Tourism - Mr. Ho An Phong - presented the decision to appoint Mr. Greg Norman as Vietnam Tourism Ambassador. The world golf legend's term will last for 5 years, from 2025 to 2030.

In addition to promoting golf tourism, Mr. Greg Norman will actively participate in activities to promote Vietnam's heritage, cuisine , culture and other unique tourism products to the international community.

Previously, Mr. Greg Norman had accompanied Vietnam tourism since 2018 as Tourism Ambassador.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Ho An Phong, said the continued appointment of Mr. Greg Norman is part of the national tourism promotion strategy, especially when Vietnam aims to not only attract large numbers of visitors but also improve the quality of spending, extend the length of stay, and attract high-end customers.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa Mai, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, assessed that in his role as Vietnam Tourism Ambassador from 2018 to 2021, Mr. Greg Norman coordinated with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (now the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism) to participate in activities to promote and advertise Vietnam tourism.

He has made a strong impression by contributing to making Vietnam become "Asia's Best Golf Destination" 8 consecutive times and "World's Best Golf Destination" 2 times (2019, 2021) voted by World Golf Awards (a prestigious international award in the golf field, part of the World Travel Award system).

He is also the designer of many outstanding golf courses in Vietnam such as The Bluffs Ho Tram, KN Golf Links Cam Ranh, Legend Da Nang Golf Resort... contributing to making Vietnam one of the attractive golf destinations in Asia.

"With global influence and a wide network of connections, Mr. Greg Norman has actively participated in activities with the National Tourism Administration, thereby contributing to making Vietnam one of the attractive golf destinations in Asia, helping to spread the image of the country, people and tourism of Vietnam to the world," said Ms. Hoa Mai.

In his role as Vietnam Tourism Ambassador (2025-2030), Mr. Greg Norman pledges to do his best to continue promoting the image of Vietnam, not only a destination for golfers but also a country of heritage, nature, culture and friendly people, thereby further spreading the image of Vietnam Tourism globally.

“I am very proud to be appointed and continue to hold the position of Vietnam Tourism Ambassador. In 2019, the number of golf courses in Vietnam was quite modest, but after nearly 10 years, we have seen clear changes. I believe that in the next 20 years, Vietnam Golf Tourism will have even stronger developments,” said Mr. Greg Norman at the event.

During his term of office from 2025 to 2030, Greg Norman will focus on promoting Vietnam golf tourism on digital platforms, contributing to raising international awareness of Vietnam as an attractive golf destination.

The tourism ambassador also plays a role in connecting and organizing international golf tournaments in Vietnam, including plans to coordinate with LIV Golf to bring a top tournament to Vietnam.

He will develop the Greg Norman Golf Academy chain to train the young generation of golfers and popularize golf in physical education; advise on developing sustainable, environmentally friendly golf policies, combining green tourism development, and inspecting and ranking international standard golf courses.

Greg Norman will also support connecting golf tourism with heritage tourism through events such as the Heritage Golf Festival in Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang; and participate in tourism promotion at fairs in the US, Australia and key markets.

In recent years, Vietnam tourism has had strong development and impressive growth, a bright spot in the socio-economic picture. In the first 6 months of the year, Vietnam welcomed more than 10.6 million international visitors, an increase of 20.7% over the same period in 2024; including 3 million golfers.

Mr. Greg Norman - a world golf legend also known by the nickname "The Great White Shark".

He was born in 1955 in Queensland, Australia and now lives in Florida, USA. He fell in love with golf at a very young age and became the world's top golfer in the 1980s and 1990s.

Greg Norman has won over 90 world championship titles. Held the number one spot in the world golf rankings for 331 weeks. He is one of the most decorated golfers in the history of world golf.

In 2001, Greg Norman was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame with a higher percentage of votes than any other inductee in history.

He was appointed as Vietnam Tourism Ambassador from 2018 to 2021. Through his activities, the world millionaire not only brings the image of a global sports star, but also serves as a bridge to bring Vietnam to the world through a special language, which is golf.
