iOS 17 can 'save' your iPhone if you forget your newly set password

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên18/06/2023

According to MacRumors , iOS 17 will now allow users to reset their iPhone's new passcode using their previous passcode up to 72 hours after the change was made. Specifically, if they enter an incorrect passcode, tapping "Forgot Passcode?" at the bottom of the screen will lead to another screen with the option to "Try Reset Passcode." Tapping this option allows users to enter their iPhone's previous passcode and create a new one.

To protect users, Apple also provides an option in the Settings app that allows users to set previous passwords to expire immediately. This means users will no longer be able to use the old password within the 72-hour limit to reset the password.

The report also points out that in the first beta version of iOS 17, Apple still retains the ability to change the password of an Apple ID account using the iPhone password. This is one of the limitations that has been exploited by thieves in device thefts. In February, a report from the Wall Street Journal said that thieves can track iPhone users' passwords in public places and then steal the device and change the Apple ID password to gain wide access to the device.

Last week, Apple's software engineering chief Craig Federighi said the company continued to look at other ways to address the issue, but no changes have been made yet.

iOS 17 will be officially released later this year for iPhone Xs and later models. The operating system is also available in beta form for developers to try.
