Israel 'secretly' applies AI to military operations

Artificial intelligence (AI) is helping select targets for airstrikes and carry out attacks at “unprecedented” speed, Israeli military officials say.

According to Bloomberg News Agency (USA) on July 16, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has begun using AI to search for airstrike targets as tensions escalate in occupied territories and when having to deal with rival Iran.

While not sharing more about specific operations, Israeli officials have confirmed that the country is using an AI recommendation system capable of processing huge amounts of data to select targets for airstrikes.

Soon, Israel was able to quickly launch attacks thanks to another artificial intelligence model called Fire Factory.

Using data on military-approved targets, the model calculates the payload, prioritizing and identifying thousands of targets for aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and recommends schedules.

According to some sources, the Israeli military has been using these artificial intelligence systems for many years now and has recently continued to significantly expand the scope of AI applications.

As a “giant digital architecture,” the system is designed to interpret massive amounts of UAV and surveillance camera footage, satellite imagery, electronic signals, online communications, and other data for military purposes.
