Khanh Hoa: Waterway tourism has many impressive developments

Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Construction has sent report No. 2783/SXD-QLVT to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the current status of waterway tourism activities in the province.

The report said that in the period of 2024, according to the management data of Khanh Hoa Inland Waterways Port Authority, the number of passengers passing through inland waterway terminals is more than 2.7 million passengers. The period from the beginning of 2025 to September 15, 2025 reached nearly 2.3 million passengers.

Currently, there are nearly 500 inland waterway vehicles operating regularly in Khanh Hoa province, including high-speed passenger boats, passenger ships, wooden boats... in which the main ones are high-speed passenger boats serving tourism. Inland waterway routes mainly serve the needs of tourists to visit, sightsee and participate in sports , entertainment and recreational activities on islands in Khanh Hoa sea such as: scuba diving, parasailing, jet skiing... mainly on coastal routes, shore - island: Nha Trang - Hon Mun, Tri Nguyen, Bich Dam; Van Gia - Ninh Tan; Cam Ranh - Binh Ba, Binh Hung.

According to the assessment, the implementation of waterway tourism activities has many advantages when the coastline of Khanh Hoa province after the merger has become the longest coastline in Vietnam, with nearly 500km. Besides, Khanh Hoa is famous for many beautiful bays such as Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, Van Phong and Vinh Hy, along with many large and small islands, which have been favorable for the implementation of waterway tourism activities, helping the number of tourists increase rapidly, expanding the demand for developing waterway tourism products and services.

Regarding infrastructure serving waterway tourism activities, most of the inland waterway ports have been announced and granted operating licenses. Currently, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province has issued a decision approving the investment policy and approving the project investor: KN Cam Ranh Passenger Port (Cam Ranh International Cruise Port), which can receive domestic and international passenger ships up to 225,000 GT, meeting the transportation needs to serve the pick-up and drop-off of tourists.

Inland waterway vehicles serving tourist transport have been invested in and built according to current technical standards, basically ensuring operating conditions according to the provisions of law.

The process of developing, managing and implementing waterway tourism activities has received attention from all levels and sectors. The province has issued regulations on coordination of inland waterway traffic management, thereby determining the responsibility of presiding and coordinating state management agencies in the management of waterway traffic activities.

In the coming time, in order to promote waterway tourism activities in the province, the Department of Construction of Khanh Hoa province recommends that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism soon issue specific instructions on water recreation and entertainment activities, which activities are water recreation and entertainment activities or recreational sports to facilitate the management of state agencies.
