When students... grow old, they remember their teachers

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên18/11/2024

November 20 has become a celebration of the teaching profession, a day to promote the spirit of respecting teachers of the Vietnamese people. There is a group of old students who not only remember their teachers on this day but also always stick with them whenever they have a chance to meet.

That is the way of showing gratitude to teachers of a group of former students of Tay Ho Primary School, Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province (later changed to Nam Ho Primary School).

Remind each other to always show gratitude to teachers

In the group of former students, everyone is around 70 years old. The group often organizes trips together to visit old teachers, go to the house to burn incense in memory of deceased teachers at the beginning of the year, Vietnamese Teachers' Day November 20, Vietnamese Women's Day, annual alumni meetings... There are five teachers and students who gather at the same old teacher's house, or the student's house, or borrow the ward's hall.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Ngoc, in charge of the group, said: "We built this group to create a bond between elementary school friends, share joys and sorrows, remind each other to always show gratitude to the teachers who taught and educated us from a young age. Especially to set an example for our children and grandchildren to live lovingly, maintain friendships, always respect and be grateful to the teachers who taught them...

Warm teacher-student relationship

In addition to meeting and visiting, on these occasions, the alumni group also organized birthday celebrations for their former teachers. The meetings were filled with fresh flowers brought by some classmates; some brought this, some contributed that… Even the teachers made their own cakes and fruits to bring. Every time they met, there were cakes and gifts from Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan (Principal of Tay Ho Primary School in the 1967-1968 school year) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich (taught at the same school). The two teachers built their families while teaching here.

As for teacher Tran Thi Le (84 years old this year), when she was a teacher, she had a camera so she took some pictures of the activities of teachers and students at Tay Ho Primary School back then. Those pictures have been carefully preserved by Ms. Le for nearly 60 years. Every time she has the opportunity to meet her former students, she brings these precious memories to everyone, creating a bond between the former teachers and students.

During these meetings, photos of the alumni group's activities during the year are selected, kept and printed on a 7-page annual calendar as a New Year's gift to teachers and students in the group.

Mr. Phan Cu, Principal of Tay Ho Primary School 1969 - 1973, shared: "The students formed groups and organized like this so well, the teachers are very touched, happy and proud of their students...".
