National Assembly delegates propose career guidance for preschool children, many people support

(Dan Tri) - The proposal to provide career guidance for preschool children has led to many debates, including disagreements. However, many people believe that career guidance for preschool children is necessary.

At the conference of National Assembly Deputies in charge of giving comments on draft laws related to education, delegate Dang Thi My Huong (National Assembly Delegation of Khanh Hoa Province) stated that student streaming after junior high school and high school is a strategic task to structure human resources for socio -economic development. However, for many years, this work has not achieved its goals, with the streaming rate being low.

According to Ms. Huong, the coordination mechanism between education levels and training facilities is still lacking, and there is no systematic assessment and career counseling system.

At the same time, this person proposed that it is necessary to have clearer regulations on implementing career guidance suitable to students' talents, strengths, and abilities right from preschool and primary school, not just stopping at middle school and high school.

Many people think that it is difficult for middle and high school students to implement career guidance, not to mention preschool children who have to be fed and taken care of when going to the toilet.

Faced with this reaction, many educators and preschool managers spoke up, stating that this proposal is not laughable, but on the contrary, if understood correctly, it is necessary.

Ms. Vu Do Thuy Hien, Principal of Tuoi Tho 7 Kindergarten, Xuan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, shared that career guidance for children from preschool age is necessary.

Career orientation education should begin from preschool level, through experiential activities, observations and arousal of interest.

At this age, children cannot yet choose a specific career but have already revealed their talents, interests, and personalities. This is an important foundation for future career guidance.

According to Ms. Hien, career guidance in preschool should only stop at the level of discovery , experience, and nurturing interests, not imposing careers on children. Activities are carried out in the form of play and learning such as career play corners (doctor, teacher, chef, etc.), career fairs, simple tours, etc.

"Teachers can record talent and interest observation forms to relay information to the next levels of education. Thereby, a connected database of children's abilities and interests from preschool to high school can be quickly formed, serving the future streaming work," Ms. Vu Do Thuy Hien shared.

The principal also proposed that there should be specific instructions on the goals, methods and responsibilities for implementing career guidance at preschool level to avoid this activity being a formality.

Currently, many kindergartens in Ho Chi Minh City organize experiential activities such as fire prevention and fighting; parents who are doctors, scientists, electricians, chefs, artists, etc. come to school to join teachers in organizing lessons for students.

Children not only learn content from experts but also gain initial recognition and experience about careers.

In recent years, many career-oriented playgrounds for children have been established, becoming places that attract schools and families to bring their children to relax and learn.

The vice principal of a private kindergarten in Ho Chi Minh City also said that career guidance for preschool children is an activity organized throughout his school.

School activities and outside experiences are organized towards career guidance, creating an environment for children to express their curiosity and form their first awareness of careers and interests.

According to her, career guidance activities for preschool children are as important as any other level of education. In the world of children, the definition of occupations gradually forms through experiences and becomes the first orientations for future careers.

This manager gives his perspective that saying "preschool children don't know anything yet, but career guidance is not appropriate for their development and need to learn and explore.

In response to criticism of the proposal for early career guidance for preschool children, Associate Professor, Doctor of Educational Psychology Pham Manh Ha, Faculty of Science and Educational Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that many people often use their own limited understanding standards to evaluate and judge other people's opinions.

Many people believe that career guidance and streaming is unreasonable for preschoolers. However, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Manh Ha believes that they have overlooked an important fact: preschool education approaches the world of careers through "learning while playing".

Letting children play the role of doctor, driver, soldier, policeman... is a way to help children form their first ideas about the rich world of careers.

Career guidance for preschool children is not to force them to choose a career as early as high school students. The purpose of this activity is to form concepts about careers; understand the value of labor; discover their own talents and interests.
