Checking the natural forests cut down in Con Dao

The People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone, Ho Chi Minh City requested to verify the current status of natural forests being cut down and cleared for agricultural cultivation.

On October 8, the People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone (HCMC) issued Document No. 1246/UBND-KT on inspecting and verifying the current status of the natural forest area that has been cleared and reporting on forest management and protection.

Previously, the People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone received Document No. 107/VQG-HTQT dated October 3 from the Management Board of Con Dao National Park regarding the notification of a number of areas where natural forests were cut down and cleared for agricultural cultivation.

Many trees were cut down

Regarding this matter, the People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone requested the Con Dao Forest Protection Department to preside over and coordinate with the National Park Management Board, the Economic Department and relevant agencies to conduct field inspections in two areas: at the foot of Thanh Gia Mountain (residential area No. 3, the intersection of D5 and Huynh Thuc Khang roads) and Bung Beo area (residential area No. 1). The units must clarify the current status of the forest, its origin, the status of deforestation, determine the cause, the subjects and responsibilities of forest management and protection; at the same time, propose measures to remedy and restore the current status if there are violations.

The People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone also requested the Management Board of Con Dao National Park to provide documents, maps, patrol records, periodic reports and legal basis to determine the current status of natural forests at the above locations. The Economic Department was assigned to monitor, synthesize results and advise the People's Committee of the Special Zone on handling measures according to regulations.

Units must report in writing to the People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone within 5 days of receiving instructions.
