First laparoscopic surgery in Con Dao special zone

With the support of doctors at Binh Dan Hospital (HCMC), the first endoscopic surgery for residents of Con Dao special zone went well.

On September 6, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that with a spacious operating room and a newly installed modern endoscopic surgery machine, the first surgery performed by surgeons from Binh Dan Hospital in Con Dao special zone was successful.

This was the case of a 36-year-old male patient with fever and right pelvic pain who was hospitalized at the Con Dao Military Medical Center.

The patient was given blood tests, abdominal ultrasound and was diagnosed with acute appendicitis.

Doctor Ly Bao Duy (Binh Dan Hospital), one of the seven doctors participating in the first rotation to work in Con Dao special zone, who was also the one who directly examined and diagnosed the patient, proactively reported and asked the hospital director for advice on the indication for endoscopic surgical intervention.

Immediately, the patient underwent laparoscopic appendectomy at 4:00 p.m. on September 6. The surgery was successful and the patient will soon be discharged to return to daily work.

This is one of the first concrete results of the delegation of specialist doctors rotating to work in Con Dao Special Zone. The Department of Health respectfully acknowledges and highly appreciates the efforts of the doctors and medical staff in the first days of rotating to work in Con Dao.

In addition to sending doctors to work in Con Dao special zone, the health sector will soon deploy a mobile blood bank set up at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center operated by Hung Vuong Hospital to ensure emergency care, obstetric intervention and surgery.

In addition, Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital will be responsible for setting up an artificial kidney dialysis system, Binh Dan Hospital will be responsible for setting up standard operating room procedures, etc.

All will be carried out by specialists under the direction and support of hospital leaders.

With the motto "No one is left behind, even in the farthest places", since September 3, the Ho Chi Minh City health sector has sent 7 doctors from leading hospitals to work in Con Dao special zone.

These are good, highly skilled doctors from the city's leading hospitals including: Binh Dan, Nhan Dan Gia Dinh, Hung Vuong, Nhi Dong 1, Trauma and Orthopedics and Nguyen Tri Phuong.

Associate Professor Tang Chi Thuong - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health - said that with this activity, despite the remote geographical location of Con Dao, local people and tourists will have access to professional and quality medical services. This is a practical action demonstrating the orientation of comprehensive and equitable development in the field of health care.
