(Dan Tri) - The colorful raft village on Chau Doc River (An Phu District, An Giang Province) is not only a place to enjoy the natural beauty but also one of the unique cultural symbols of An Giang.
Chau Doc floating fish village is located at the junction of Chau Doc river with more than 160 fish farms painted in bright colors creating a lively scene and attracting tourists . These fish farms are the homes of local fishermen, now becoming a unique sightseeing spot, an interesting experience for tourists. The project "Colorful raft village at Chau Doc intersection" is over 1km long and is implemented by the Trade and Investment Promotion Center of An Giang province. All 161 rafts and cages for raising freshwater fish in the floating village are painted in 6 colors: red, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple. Each fish raft is painted a color, in order. With a length of more than 1km, Chau Doc's colorful fish raft village offers visitors interesting experiences, from admiring the beautiful landscape to learning about the traditional fish farming methods of local people. According to local people, currently only a few fishermen still go fishing, mainly raising seafood on rafts. ''In the past, I was a fisherman but it was difficult because of the changing water levels, sometimes it was very ungrateful. There was a time when I fished all day and caught nothing. Tourism has developed so I chose to drive a boat to take tourists sightseeing,'' Mr. Ly Minh Tai (57 years old, Chau Doc City) shared. ''Having a boat is like having a motorbike on the shore. If a house doesn't have one, they can hire a ferry, from the raft to the shore it costs 20,000 VND each way. Usually every house has one, but sometimes the family is busy taking their children to school or taking relatives to the raft to play,'' Mr. Tai said. The grocery boat of Mrs. Le Thi Mai (56 years old, Chau Doc city) has been stained with time after operating for more than ten years in the floating village. "Every day I go everywhere on the river to sell goods. On the raft is different from on the shore, if I sell at home, no one will come to buy, so I have to keep going. I've gotten used to it, selling a little each day to save up to get by," Mrs. Mai said. The fishing boat of Mr. Nguyen Van Xuan (37 years old, Chau Doc City) raises about 30,000 pomfret fish. Every day, he and his workers grind more than 400kg of fish food. According to Mr. Xuan, it can be harvested after every 2 months. When arriving here, visitors can easily participate in activities such as sightseeing, taking pictures, and enjoying fresh fish raised here. Besides, the fresh air and peaceful space of the river are also a big plus, helping visitors have wonderful moments of relaxation.
Many households take advantage of the space to raise livestock and poultry to improve their daily lives. Currently, the raft village has two boat piers for tourism. In the village, brocade weaving looms are displayed, and there is a souvenir shop selling traditional products of the local people. Many tourists coming to the West to experience the flood season are amazed by the image of Chau Doc floating village painted in brilliant colors, like a rainbow standing out at the confluence of three rivers. This is a new local tourism product that is expected to attract domestic and international tourists to An Giang.
