Provincial People's Committee leaders inspect drought response work in Ninh Son district

On May 17, Mr. Trinh Minh Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, inspected drought response work in Ninh Son district. He was accompanied by leaders of relevant departments and branches.

After inspecting the Gia Chieu stream area, visiting the fruit growing area in Lam Hoa village, Lam Son commune; inspecting the sugarcane production situation in May stream 1, 2, 3 areas, Quang Son commune and the banana growing model applying high-tech agriculture in Tan Dinh village, Hoa Son commune, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee listened to the leaders of Ninh Son district report on the drought response situation in the area. Accordingly, the locality is currently implementing the summer-autumn crop planting in 2024, the water source at the reservoirs is temporarily guaranteed to serve production. In particular, some communes of Lam Son and Quang Son are affected by drought, specifically: Lam Son commune, lacks water for irrigation for fruit gardens of households in Cau Khi area in Lam Hoa village, the area along Gia Chieu stream, Le stream in Lam Binh and Lam Phu villages with an area of over 200 hectares.

In Quang Son commune, if the heat wave continues for a while longer, there is a risk of water shortage for sugarcane cultivation in the areas of May 1, 2, 3, Dau 2 River, Lot 20 Dau River with an area of over 300 hectares. Through actual inspection, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said: The drought situation will continue to be severe in the coming time. Therefore, he suggested that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinate with the Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited to find a temporary solution to create a water source to save fruit trees and crops of high economic value in the district. In the long term, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and other sectors and localities need to conduct surveys and propose to the province plans to build water storage systems and water pipes to areas at risk of being affected by drought to cope with drought if it occurs in the coming time.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Ninh Son District People's Committee to continue to be proactive and focus on implementing drought prevention work, prioritizing ensuring domestic water for people; followed by drinking water for livestock and irrigation water for perennial crops with high economic value such as durian, mangosteen, jackfruit, rambutan... Implement well the plan to convert the crop structure to less water-consuming crops, and at the same time apply water-saving irrigation models in production. Continue to guide people to replicate effective crop conversion models to improve economic efficiency for families.
