Recorded at Ho Thi Ky flower market, Dam Sen (HCMC) on October 19, the atmosphere of wholesale and retail trading was bustling. Accordingly, the retail price of ready-made flower bouquets here fluctuates from 150,000 - 400,000 VND/bunch, popular wholesale roses from 250,000 - 400,000 VND/bunch of 50 flowers.
Many sellers said this price increased about 50% compared to normal days, but decreased 10 - 20% compared to the same period last year.
Popular flowers such as hydrangeas, gypsophila, sunflowers... only increased slightly compared to normal days, with 10,000 VND/sunflower, 30,000 - 32,000 VND/hydranga, 75,000 - 80,000 VND/bunch of gypsophila.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Son, a trader at Ho Thi Ky market, said that in addition to the reduced prices, this year's flower varieties are also quite flexible compared to last year, so customers have more choices.
Specifically, pre-arranged flowers have a retail price of about 150,000 - 300,000 VND/basket, flowers sold by branch to give as gifts are 13,000 - 15,000 VND/branch, imported roses have a wholesale price of about 130,000 VND/bunch.
However, according to Ms. Son, purchasing power this year is not high, and the situation of "sold out" before the holidays like every year happens less often.
"The wholesale customers and customers from the provinces have already bought the flowers, but at this time, many places still have flowers in stock. Hopefully, the increase in wholesale and retail sales on October 20 will help sell out the goods," Ms. Huong, a seller at Ho Thi Ky flower market, hopes.
Meanwhile, at roadside shops and temporary sales points, each rose branch is commonly priced at 20,000 - 25,000 VND; bouquets and baskets are commonly priced from 150,000 - 800,000 VND. Many sellers confirmed that these prices are about 10 - 20% lower than last year's holiday.
A representative of Dam Sen flower market said that the price of roses sold on this occasion increased by about 50% compared to normal days, but was lower than on October 20 last year and previous years, and purchasing power had somewhat decreased.
"There is a large supply of flowers, including roses imported from other countries. Especially thanks to convenient delivery and low transportation costs, a large amount of flowers from China have been imported, competing with domestic goods, causing prices to decrease compared to last year," a representative of Dam Sen flower market explained.

Meanwhile, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Pham Hoang Thai Duong, Director of Color Life Joint Stock Company - the unit managing the Hoayeuthuong.com brand, said that due to the influence of a large amount of imported flowers, the price level of flowers imported by the unit this year is quite soft, 20 - 30% lower than the same period of previous years, even many types are reduced by up to 50%.
With the average selling price in the system maintained around 600,000 - 700,000 VND/basket, Mr. Duong said that purchasing power is quite stable, and as of today the unit has stopped accepting orders. Surprisingly, the Northern region has many people ordering flowers this year, and the amount of flowers in Hanoi is also quite high.
However, Mr. Duong said that the timing factor still significantly affected the industry's sales. Accordingly, the holiday falling on Monday caused sales to decrease somewhat compared to previous years. When the holiday falls in the middle of the week, stores can sell for up to three days. This year, it is only about a day and a half.
Combined gifts, high-end products reign supreme
Along with fresh flowers, the gift market for October 20th is equally vibrant. Flower combos with cakes, milk tea or sweets priced from 200,000 - 400,000 VND are popular among young people thanks to their convenience and meaning.
At the higher end, the market is bustling with gift sets priced from 1 million VND and above, aimed at corporate customers or gift givers who want to show special appreciation. These products include cosmetics, handbags, mirrors, or imported food.
Although the shopping period is shorter than every year, the October 20 market still maintains its heat. Consumers tend to spend selectively, prioritizing delicate, convenient gifts that bring real emotions to the recipient, instead of chasing after formalities like before.
