On October 1, news from the Management Board of the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism said that the activities in October 2024 held at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism (Dong Mo, Son Tay, Hanoi) will have the theme "Sea and islands in the hearts of the people".
The highlight of the series of activities is the Hoang Sa soldiers' memorial ceremony of Ly Son island district, Quang Ngai province, which will be recreated at the Cultural Village space.

The history of protecting the sovereignty of the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa of the nation was written with the sweat and blood of many generations of young men of the two villages of An Vinh and An Hai in Sa Ky estuary and later the two wards of An Vinh and An Hai on Ly Son island.
The deep origin of today's "Hoang Sa soldiers' memorial ceremony" is the ancient "soldier memorial ceremony" of the people of An Vinh village and the clans on Ly Son island to pray for peace for the Hoang Sa soldiers before the team sets off on their mission.
To prepare for the ceremony, people made 5 boat models, sacrificial offerings, tablets of the Hoang Sa captains and soldiers in the team, and tablets of the gods who ruled the sea.
Before the ceremony, the village's communal house's worshiping committee held a ceremony to worship the gods the night before and held a ceremony to pray for the souls of the Hoang Sa soldiers. The offerings and rituals reflect the unique cultural characteristics of Ly Son residents.
The Hoang Sa soldiers' memorial ceremony contributes to reflecting on the history of protecting Vietnam's territorial sovereignty in the East Sea, especially sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, arousing patriotism, preserving the cultural values of our ancestors, helping to unite the community, and educating traditions for future generations.
In 2013, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to include the Hoang Sa Soldiers' Commemoration Ceremony in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage, in the category of Social Customs and Beliefs.
