According to Kyodo news agency, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio is expected to hold a summit with host country President Joe Biden and speak at a joint session of the US Congress .

The Japanese leader will reaffirm to the White House boss the importance of Japan-US cooperation in various areas, from security and advanced technology to strengthening supply chains.

Speaking to reporters before departing for Washington DC, Prime Minister Kishida emphasized: "I want to confirm that Japan and the US have built a stronger relationship and this will be an important opportunity to convey this message to the world."

According to Mr. Kishida, the visit will help strengthen the bilateral alliance and he will become the first Japanese Prime Minister to address the US Congress since Mr. Abe Shinzo made a similar move in April 2015.

The theme of Prime Minister Kishida's speech on April 11 is likely to be "future orientation" and he will emphasize the importance of the Japan-US partnership in maintaining a free and open international order, an official said.

Also on April 11, Prime Minister Kishida will join President Biden for the first Trilateral Summit with the participation of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. before visiting North Carolina.
