Vietnam Volleyball Federation will test athletes' gender from 2026

Check athlete's gender

The 7th Executive Committee meeting of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation was held on September 11. This meeting gave important results on checking the qualifications of athletes participating in domestic and international tournaments.

Specifically, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation raised 3 issues including:

- The official tournaments of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and the participating clubs and athletes are all registered in the FIVB system ( International Volleyball Federation - PV). Therefore, athletes who are not qualified as determined by FIVB will not be allowed to compete in tournaments in the official competition system of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation until further decision.

- The determination of gender identity disorder for athletes to participate in tournaments in the official competition system of Vietnam will be carried out according to specific instructions of FIVB. The functional units and conditions to ensure the accuracy of this determination will be implemented starting from 2026.

- Athletes participating in the SEA Games are tested for qualifications according to the regulations of the SEA Games organizing committee and the instructions of the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department.

Previously at the U21 Women's Volleyball World Championship, the Vietnam U21 team had some group stage matches canceled due to using ineligible athletes.

Up to this point, neither FIVB nor the Vietnam Volleyball Federation has provided any information about this athlete or the violations she encountered.

At that time, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation also repeatedly affirmed that it would appeal the FIVB's decision.

Preparing for the SEA Games

Recently, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has continuously competed in major tournaments, including the Women's Volleyball World Championship. From now until the end of the year, they will have an extremely important playground, the 33rd SEA Games taking place in Thailand.

The meeting of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, term VII, also highlighted the goals of this playground. Specifically, VFV will review the training plan, prepare the best conditions for the teams participating in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, and strive to achieve the set goals.

The goal set at the beginning of this year was for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team to win a gold medal. Currently, the athletes will return to their clubs to compete in the second phase of the National Championship.

It is known that after that, the whole team will have at least one training trip before leaving for Thailand.
