The news that Bich Tuyen withdrew from the Ninh Binh Women's Club's competition list in the second phase of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship did not surprise many people.
Previously, the Hoa Lu ancient capital football team planned to register the 25-year-old player as an assistant coach, which was considered a preparation step for his withdrawal from competition.
Bich Tuyen's absence will affect Ninh Binh Club's championship goal, but they cannot do otherwise due to the great pressure recently related to gender issues.
The most concerned issue after Bich Tuyen withdrew from the National Championship is whether this player will participate in SEA Games 33 or not.
As well as at the club, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team needs Bich Tuyen to aim for the historic goal: SEA Games gold medal. However, after the very drastic actions from the host country's organizing committee regarding the gender testing regulations, the 2000-born hitter is unlikely to participate in the upcoming regional sports festival, when the lesson from Dang Thi Hong at the U21 World Cup is still very relevant.
Professionally, it is very difficult for an athlete to maintain his form if he does not compete from mid-August (friendly match with Spain) to mid-December.
Furthermore, if coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet still calls Bich Tuyen, it means the opportunity for another athlete is lost, certainly creating unnecessary controversy before the SEA Games.
Volleyball, like any other sport, requires athletes to prove their performance in the national championship to be worthy of being on the national team. Not to mention the many times Bich Tuyen refused to wear the national team jersey for various reasons.
In Bich Tuyen's case at this time, perhaps the coaching board of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team must soon consider finding a replacement, like they did at the recent world championship.
