United Nations reform for the future

According to Mr. Guterres, the initiative includes proposals to improve the practical effectiveness of UN activities, review and redefine the powers and tasks of the General Assembly and the UN Security Council, and reform both the institutions and organizations as well as the functions and tasks of the UN.

The UN has raised the issue of far-reaching reform and has achieved certain results so far. However, this process is generally stagnant and not comprehensive. The gap between the awareness of the need for rapid and far-reaching reform and the reality of the UN among its members remains very large. Meanwhile, the current world has changed fundamentally compared to the time the UN was founded 80 years ago, so taking this opportunity to propose a new initiative to create a strong and clear change in the UN reform process is a positive, appropriate and necessary approach.

The reform of the UN in general and the UN80 initiative in particular are not directly related to the views and policies of the new US administration. However, the views and policies of the new US administration on the UN and multilateral cooperation in the modern world have, to a certain extent, had an impact, making the urgent need for deep and radical reform more urgent.

The UN must reform for its own future and for the future of the world. Reform to adapt to a fundamentally changed world. Only then can the UN preserve and strengthen its role, position and influence as a key pillar of world political order, peace , security, stability and development.
