European team wins overwhelmingly, close to winning the 2025 Ryder Cup

The second day of competition at Bethpage Black ended with two contrasting images: a tense brawl between spectators at the par-4 18th hole, followed immediately by the smiles and excited hugs of European golfers. Those two slices fully reflect the picture of the 2025 Ryder Cup, where tension and drama go hand in hand with a team that is writing a new chapter of its history.

On the final hole, Matt Fitzpatrick hit a spectacular bunker shot, the ball spun back and stopped about 60cm from the flag. Immediately after, Tyrrell Hatton make the atmosphere explode when hit a precise shot into the hole, the ball spun back and even lightly touched the ball of a colleague. Rory McIlroy stood outside, smiling brightly.

That moment summed up a brilliant performance by the European team, who faced and overcame all odds, including a boisterous American crowd that forced the organizers to increase security. They ended the second day with the biggest margin in Ryder Cup history: 11.5 to 4.5.

In the morning foursome session, after Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Young's 4&2 victory over Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick, it seemed like the Americans had a chance to turn things around. But that was the only bright spot as the remaining three European pairs, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, and Viktor Hovland and Robert MacIntyre, all won, bringing the total score to 8.5 - 3.5.

In the afternoon fourballs, Team Europe continued to maintain their momentum, winning 3 out of 4 matches. Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose had an early 3&2 victory over Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau. The remaining three matches had to go to the 18th hole to decide the winner, with Team Europe winning 2 of them.

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry won 2Up against Justin Thomas and Cameron Young. Matt Fitzpatrick and Tyrrell Hatton overcame Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay. In the other match, Jon Rahm could not continue his unbeaten run in this year's tournament, when he and Sepp Straka lost to JJ Spaun and Xander Schauffele.

Even European captain Luke Donald could not have imagined it, calling it a "show of incredible belief and resilience."

- 22 strokes in the morning foursomes, then - 34 strokes in the afternoon fourballs - the terrible numbers of the European team forced the US captain Keegan Bradley to admit: "I think this is one of their best performances in history. I'm witnessing world-class putting ability. They're putting the ball in the hole almost every time and they're really a very difficult group to beat."

At the end of the day, Team Europe led 11.5 - 4.5, becoming the first team since 1979 to surpass the 11-point mark before the singles match. Just 3 more points in the final 12 singles matches will officially crown Team Europe the 2025 Ryder Cup champion.
