The festival is chaired by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Performing Arts, in coordination with the Vietnam Stage Artists Association, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Nguyen province, the Viet Bac Folk Music and Dance Theater and related units.
The festival is organized to discover new discoveries and creations in artistic work, honor talents of spoken drama, and thereby find solutions and appropriate methods of operation to promote the development of Vietnamese spoken drama.
The festival is also an opportunity for art units to search for, attract and nurture the next generation of artists and actors; an opportunity for artists and actors to exchange, learn experiences, cultivate knowledge, improve professional qualifications and artistic quality.
This year's National Drama Festival attracted the participation of 20 public and private drama art units across the country, with 24 unique plays (each play lasting 90-150 minutes) on many topics.
According to the Festival Regulations, these are all plays that have been newly staged or restored with a new creative team from 2017 to present. Units are not allowed to use scripts composed before 2005 or foreign scripts. In case of scripts composed before 2005, after being adjusted to suit the present, the author's consent is required.
The Organizing Committee encourages plays with content responding to the Campaign "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle"; carrying out the key tasks of the 13th National Congress of the Party on comprehensive human development and building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity; arousing the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country; promoting cultural values and the strength of the Vietnamese people in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland and international integration.
People's Artist Tran Ly Ly, Acting Director of the Department of Performing Arts, said that preparations for this year's Drama Festival were carefully carried out.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will award Gold and Silver Medals to outstanding plays and artists. In addition, the Ministry will also award Excellence Awards to creative elements (including: authors, art directors, directors, art designers) in the plays.
