Anthony Hudson could be the new coach of the Thai national team. |
The 44-year-old British strategist is considered a suitable choice for the hot seat of the “War Elephants”. His immediate task is to lead the Thai team to complete the two remaining matches in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, with the mandatory goal of winning a ticket to the final round.
Before being selected for the position of head coach of the Thai national team, Mr. Hudson held the position of Technical Director of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT).
In the past, Mr. Hudson led the New Zealand team to the play-off round for a ticket to the 2018 World Cup, and also had a period as interim coach of the US team in the 2022-2023 period.
Arriving in Thailand in early 2025, the 44-year-old strategist led BG Pathum United with a winning rate of more than 58%, before being appointed Technical Director by FAT in June.
According to plan, Mr. Hudson will have his debut match when Thailand plays a friendly match with Singapore on November 13, before traveling to Sri Lanka's field on November 18 in the 5th round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
The final qualifying match against Turkmenistan at home on March 31, 2026 is considered the first important test for the English coach.
On October 21, FAT announced the termination of the contract with coach Masatada Ishii for the reason of "renewing the coaching team to suit the new development direction".
