Series of Ukrainian officials resign

Minister of Strategic Industry of Ukraine Oleksandr Kamyshin, Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, along with the Minister of Justice and Minister of Environment of Ukraine on September 3 simultaneously submitted their resignations.

This decision, along with a series of officials dismissed since the beginning of the year, has left one-third of Ukraine's cabinet vacant.

This is part of a major government reshuffle by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Mr. Zelensky and his political allies are expected to seek to fill vacant cabinet positions before he visits the United States this month and presents his “plan to defeat Russia.”

"The fall will be extremely important for Ukraine. And our state institutions should be structured so that Ukraine achieves all the results we need, for all of us. To do this, we must strengthen some areas of government and changes in the structure of the government are being prepared. There will also be changes in the Presidential Administration," Zelensky said.

Mr Zelensky earlier this week dismissed Rostyslav Shurma, one of his deputy chiefs of staff in charge of economic affairs.

David Arakhamia, a senior Ukrainian lawmaker, said there would be a "major reshuffle in the government" and more than half of the ministers would change.

Ukraine's Minister of Strategic Industries Kamyshin, who resigned from his post, will continue to hold another position in the defense sector. He was appointed in March 2023 and plays a key role in the production of thousands of long-range drones in Ukraine.
