Experts say that initiatives on recycling, cleaner production, reverse logistics or eco-industrial parks largely stem from the need to reduce costs, improve efficiency and competitiveness of businesses. Dynamism and flexibility help businesses quickly apply circular business models, thereby spreading sustainable development habits throughout the economy.

At the same time, the private sector has an advantage in mobilizing diverse sources of capital for green transformation. In addition to domestic credit, they also have access to international capital flows from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), green bonds, preferential credit, and even experiment with innovative forms such as crowdfunding, venture capital funds for innovation and high-tech, green-oriented startups. These are channels that the public sector can hardly exploit as effectively.

In manufacturing and service activities, private enterprises are also key agents helping Vietnam meet the green standards of export markets. With the ability to innovate quickly, the private sector has an advantage in adapting, maintaining competitiveness and expanding international markets.

Although the majority of Vietnamese private enterprises are small and medium-sized, this characteristic creates a widespread impact. When hundreds of thousands of enterprises apply basic green solutions such as energy saving, wastewater treatment or waste classification at source, the combined impact will be significant for the goal of sustainable development.

From this perspective, the private economy is not only a policy beneficiary, but also becomes a direct force to realize the green, circular and sustainable development model, contributing to improving national competitiveness and realizing the commitment to net zero emissions by 2050.

In particular, the role of the private economy can be clearly seen through 6 pillars of green growth, reflecting the key areas in which businesses can participate and create long-term impacts, including: Renewable energy and emission reduction; Circular economy and waste reduction; Green finance and support mechanisms; Technology and innovation - Application of low-emission materials, smart agriculture , green production-consumption models and sandbox mechanisms for new technologies; Green transport and infrastructure - development of electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, urban waste treatment, low-emission logistics systems and distributed energy (small-scale clean power sources such as rooftop solar power, storage batteries or microgrids, installed right in residential areas and factories for on-site consumption, not completely dependent on the centralized power grid); Sustainable governance and green standards - promote ESG adoption in businesses, deploy digital MRV systems for emissions transparency, and adopt green labels and international standards to enhance competitiveness.

It can be seen that maximizing the potential of the private economic sector in green growth not only brings economic benefits, but is also a solid step towards a fair, prosperous and harmonious society with nature.

This is a favorable period for Vietnam to combine the strength of the State, private enterprises and the community to build a green-clean-sustainable economy.

Regarding the role and contribution of the private economic sector to economic development, Mr. Dau Anh Tuan, Deputy General Secretary and Head of the Legal Department of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry, acknowledged that in the integration process, especially when the whole society and the political system of the whole country are making efforts and unanimously promoting Vietnam to go further in the new era, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the private economy is not only an "important driving force" but also needs to be facilitated to participate in strategic areas, in line with the spirit of Resolution 10, the 5th Central Conference on the private economy. Accordingly, it is affirmed that "Encourage and create favorable conditions for the private economy to develop rapidly, sustainably, and diversely with a high growth rate in terms of quantity, scale, quality, and contribution to GDP...; remove all barriers and prejudices, create all favorable conditions for the development of a healthy and properly oriented private economy".

Speaking with us, Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thi An, Director of the Institute of Natural Resources, Environment and Community Development, emphasized: “Green growth is not only an inevitable trend but also the key for the Vietnamese private economy to improve its competitiveness and meet international standards. Enterprises need to proactively invest in clean technology, effectively manage resources, and participate more deeply in the global value chain in a sustainable way.”

Sharing the same view, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hai, Senior Economist of GIZ, analyzed: "The first foundation of the green transition process is to identify and classify green activities. This is a basic step to build standards, legal frameworks and incentive policies, while creating conditions for businesses to access domestic and international green financial capital. Without a clear classification system, businesses will find it difficult to receive support, and the market will lack a transparent basis for investment orientation."

Experts believe that the harmonious combination of private economic growth and environmental protection is not only an urgent requirement but also an opportunity for businesses to create sustainable competitive advantages. Green business models, circular economy, clean energy, etc. are opening up new directions not only for economic benefits but also for social responsibility and the future of future generations.
