Microsoft admits Windows 11 CPU 'hungry' problem

According to Neowin , the Windows 11 Insider version released by Microsoft in June has been experiencing high CPU usage when running certain services. This issue was first reported by user Leginmat90 via the Microsoft Community Forums on June 5.

The issue is believed to be related to the Phone Link features that Microsoft is testing.

Leginmat90 later discovered that the Cross Device Service was the cause of this Windows 11 Insider build suddenly using an unexpected amount of CPU. If this service was disabled, CPU usage returned to normal.

Responding to the report, Microsoft engineer Jennifer G confirmed the issue and said the company is identifying the cause and working on a fix. However, a week after the report appeared, Microsoft has still not been able to fix the problem.

It is known that Cross Device Service can help Windows 11 computers connect with other devices such as mobile phones to synchronize content, share files..., basically it is the Phone Link support feature of Windows. The recent Windows 11 Insider version is said to be testing functions related to Phone Link, so that could be the cause of the problem as mentioned.

Meanwhile, Windows 10 users don’t have to worry about the above issues. What they do have to worry about is that Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10 systems on October 14, 2025, which has led to some third-party companies showing signs of turning their backs on the operating system. For example, AMD has already started removing Windows 10 compatibility from some of its newer CPUs. Users are advised to consider upgrading their hardware and operating system as soon as possible.
