A patient infected with “flesh-eating bacteria” after floods in Lao Cai

In Lao Cai province, a case of flesh-eating bacteria has just been hospitalized. Meanwhile, in the mountainous region of Ha Giang province, health authorities have just concluded that 72 students with common symptoms of nausea, headache, diarrhea... were due to food poisoning.

On September 27, information from Lao Cai province said that the Department of Infectious Diseases - Lao Cai General Hospital had just received a case of Whitmore disease - a disease caused by the bacteria Burkholderia pseudomallei, known as "flesh-eating bacteria".

The patient, Mr. NVN (born in 1972, in Cam 4 village, Cam Con commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province), was infected while cleaning up mud after the flood without using protective gear and had an external wound.

According to epidemiological investigation information, after 1 day of cleaning up mud, the patient had a mild fever, little cough, then fever, cough gradually increased, headache, muscle and joint pain all over the body, pustules scattered on both legs and back.

The patient has been transferred to the Central Tropical Hospital for treatment.

Ha Giang: 72 students suffer from food poisoning

On the same day, September 27, the Ha Giang Provincial Department of Health announced the test results of food samples related to the food poisoning incident at the Xin Man District Boarding Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities.

According to the report, the fried egg and Korean rice cake samples JIN TU were found to contain bacteria, mold and chemical sugars exceeding the permitted levels. The lemon tea sample contained coliforms and aerobic microorganisms at high density, which pose a risk to health.

Test results have shown that the presence of these microorganisms can be dangerous to health, with symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, digestive disorders and in severe cases can lead to infection, acute diarrhea, and even death if not treated promptly.

Previously, on September 15, a food poisoning incident at this school caused 72 students to be hospitalized with symptoms of suspected food poisoning. After 9 days of treatment, 29 students were in stable health and were discharged from the hospital.
