Some schools give students a whole month off for Tet.

Many universities in Ho Chi Minh City and other localities have announced the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday schedule. On average, students will have two to three weeks off, but some schools will allow up to a month off to facilitate students returning home for Tet.

On October 13, the Government Office issued Document No. 9859/VPCP-KGVX on Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026. Accordingly, workers nationwide will have 9 consecutive days off for the Binh Ngo New Year, from February 14 to February 22, 2026 (ie from December 27, At Ty year to January 6, Binh Ngo year).

However, at universities , due to the specificity of the school calendar and autonomy in developing training plans, students' Tet holidays are often longer than the general regulations.

Many schools in Ho Chi Minh City give students 2-4 weeks off

In Ho Chi Minh City, most universities announced Tet holidays lasting from 14 to 21 days.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology – Vietnam National University, University of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Hoa Sen University, University of Finance and Marketing all give students a break from February 9 to February 22, 2026 (December 22 to January 6).

University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-HCM) will be off for 15 days, from February 8 to February 22, 2026.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine and Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment will give students 19 days off, from February 9 to February 27, 2026.

Saigon University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Gia Dinh University and Saigon International University will have 20 days off, from February 9 to February 28, 2026.

Many schools have given students a longer break, such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Ho Chi Minh City Banking University, Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture and Ho Chi Minh City University of Science - VNU-HCM City, giving students a 21-day break, from February 9 to March 1, 2026.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade and Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry have a 28-day break, lasting from February 9 to March 8, 2026.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (UEF) is currently the school that gives students the longest Tet holiday, a total of 30 days, from February 1 to March 1, 2026 (December 14 to January 13).

Hanoi and northern localities maintain a common 2-3 week holiday schedule.

In Hanoi, most universities such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Education, Hanoi University, Hanoi Open University, University of Water Resources... give students 14 days off (from February 9 to February 22, 2026).

Some schools such as National Economics University, Foreign Trade University, University of Economics – VNU Hanoi or Banking Academy extend the break to 21-22 days.

According to schools, arranging a longer Tet holiday than prescribed helps students avoid peak travel times, reduce pressure on transportation costs, and have more time to rest with their families before starting the new semester.

Schools also recommend that students need to follow the official announcements of the training department, especially the schedule of classes, exams or project submission after the holiday to avoid affecting their study progress.

The flexibility of universities in arranging the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday schedule demonstrates their autonomy in managing and organizing the school year. Despite the differences in time, the schools all ensure the number of actual study weeks as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training, while creating favorable conditions for students nationwide to celebrate the Lunar New Year together, safely and meaningfully.
