(NLDO) - Thanh Hoa City has just issued a document asking for permission for middle school students to take Saturday off and teach 5 days a week.

On February 8, the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa City, Thanh Hoa Province, said that it had just sent a document to the Thanh Hoa City Party Committee and People's Committee requesting permission to implement teaching and learning 5 days/week for junior high schools in the area.

Many localities across the country have allowed students to study 5 days a week.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa City, after reviewing the conditions for implementing the 40-hour work week in 5 days for secondary schools in the city according to Circular 36 (September 27, 1999) of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa City reported and asked for opinions from the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and the Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa City to allow secondary schools to teach and study 5 days/week from Monday to Friday, with Saturday and Sunday off.

Organizing teaching and learning 5 days/week is to create conditions for schools to have time on Saturdays and Sundays to organize other educational activities such as: Life skills education, sports activities, tutoring for students with poor academic performance, nurturing excellent students, organizing professional activities for teachers...

From there, help schools improve teaching quality, comprehensively develop students and meet the requirements of educational innovation.

It is expected that secondary school students will start studying 5 days/week starting February 17.

It is known that currently, secondary schools in Thanh Hoa province are teaching and learning 6 days/week. Meanwhile, nationwide, there are 7 localities: Phu Tho, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Hanoi, Ha Tinh City (Ha Tinh), Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa), Vinh City (Nghe An) piloting teaching 5 days/week.
