HAGL was thin, now even thinner?
The 0-3 defeat at home in Pleiku against Hanoi FC in round 14 left HAGL stuck in 8th place in V-League 2024 - 2025. Although still in a safe position in theory, the form of coach Le Quang Trai and his team at this time is very alarming.
HAGL has won only 2 of the last 13 matches in all competitions. In the V-League, the mountain town representative has only won 11 out of a total of 36 maximum points (from round 3 to round 14). HAGL's ability to earn points in the past 3 months has been worse than Hai Phong, SLNA, Quang Nam and only about the same as the bottom team Da Nang.
Minh Vuong (orange shirt) may leave HAGL
However, that is not the worst thing. HAGL may lose captain Tran Minh Vuong after round 15. According to Thanh Nien Newspaper, the midfielder born in 1996 has received an invitation from a first-class team with ambitions to advance to V-League. Minh Vuong still leaves this offer in "waiting" status. Most likely, he will discuss with HAGL's coaching staff and make a decision after round 15.
If Minh Vuong leaves, HAGL fans probably won't be surprised. Because since the end of 2022, the Pleiku team has become accustomed to separations. The first and second HAGL generations with Nguyen Cong Phuong, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Nguyen Van Toan, Vu Van Thanh, Luong Xuan Truong, Nguyen Phong Hong Duy... have left one after another before the 2023 season.
This season, HAGL will say goodbye to Nguyen Quoc Viet and Dinh Thanh Binh (both of whom are playing for Ninh Binh Club in the first division). If Minh Vuong leaves, it means that the key players of the HAGL Academy in the early stages will no longer be present in the mountain town.
Although comings and goings are inevitable in football, it seems that HAGL is not ready yet. The players from the third batch onwards are still at the mountain town team. However, the mark that Dung Quang Nho, Tran Bao Toan, Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Pham Ly Duc, Tran Trung Kien... left is not much.
After the excitement of the beginning of the season with 5 unbeaten matches (2 wins, 3 draws), HAGL has run out of steam. Apart from 2 phenomenal wins, technical director (GĐKT) Vu Tien Thanh and his team have only drawn and lost, despite facing evenly matched teams.
HAGL only won 2 of the last 13 matches
Mr. Vu Tien Thanh’s physical training method and improved psychological warfare have helped HAGL progress. But no matter how excellent the method is, it still needs good players to optimize their abilities. Meanwhile, HAGL’s current core players are only average or young, inexperienced players.
Those players need seniors like Minh Vuong to lead the way. The midfielder born in 1996 is a rare person who understands the culture and spirit of HAGL from the early days. However, he can also leave.
Consequences
If Minh Vuong leaves Pleiku Stadium, HAGL will not only lose a player who has played all 14 matches since the beginning of the tournament. But Mr. Duc’s team will also leave doubts about its ambition.
What does this team want, when it continuously "bleeds" its players, at a critical time?
If they want to stay in the league soon to have more room to calculate, the mountain town team should buy more players, instead of letting key players leave.
Because the gap of 5 points with the bottom group is not safe enough for HAGL, in the context of the teams behind are rising. SLNA has won 2 out of the last 4 matches, Hai Phong has won 2 out of the last 3 matches, Da Nang also took 5 points in the past 3 matches after changing "general". The teams SLNA and Hai Phong are also experienced in the relegation race.
In the next 5 rounds, HAGL will meet Ho Chi Minh City Club, Binh Duong, Thanh Hoa, Hanoi Police Club and Ha Tinh. In the first leg against these 5 opponents, HAGL only earned 5 points. If they cannot overcome the "storm", Mr. Vu Tien Thanh and his team will be caught up.
Compared to HAGL, Hai Phong and Quang Nam are not inferior. And obviously, these teams do not let their key players leave when the season enters a difficult phase, like the risk HAGL is about to face.
HAGL’s problem is also the trust in the hearts of the fans. If you can’t buy players, at least keep them until you achieve your goals. Players who leave can come back, but trust is gone, and it’s very difficult to restore it.
