My Duyen and Hong Anh reunite in "Under the beauty's shadow"

Inspired by the masterpiece Tale of Kieu by the great national poet Nguyen Du, the drama "Under the shadow of a beauty" was performed in December. From the old story, the author has added new developments, incorporating modern humanistic elements.

With a modern staging style, Under the shadow of a beauty by Idecaf Drama Theater brings a different way of telling about Kieu and the names that seem very familiar. In addition, some fictional characters and events are not in the original work.

This is a large-scale investment project, promising many surprises with a famous cast: Hong Anh, Thanh Thuy, Hoang Trinh, Meritorious Artist My Duyen, Tuyen Map, Dinh Toan, Meritorious Artist Dai Nghia, with the special participation of artist - Meritorious Teacher Dieu Duc.

According to information from Idecaf Theater, this drama will be reviewed in November and performed for the public who love Saigon drama theater starting from December 2024 at Ben Thanh Theater.

Sharing at the press conference, Mr. Huynh Anh Tuan - Director of Thai Duong Stage - Arts Company Limited, the owner of Idecaf Drama Theater, did not hide his ambition for a drama theater in the "new era".

“We have a wish that when talking about Idecaf, the public and experts will not only mention old plays that have been renewed, or new plays that continue old successes, even though those are the things that made Idecaf famous in the past.

What Idecaf aims for is to have more valuable dramatic works to give to the audience. The Left General Le Van Duyet is considered the first brick to lay the foundation to strengthen the theater's dramatic section. As for Under the beauty's shadow, we believe that this will be the play that creates a solid framework for the Idecaf art house."

According to Mr. Huynh Anh Tuan, Under the beauty's shadow will be one of the projects that Idecaf will invest a lot of human and financial resources in the near future. Although the total investment has not been disclosed, looking at the number of actors up to more than 50 people, including many famous names in Saigon drama, we can see the scale and determination of the producer to persevere with this stage.

In addition to the familiar faces of the Idecaf Drama Theatre as introduced above, the play also brings together many other veteran names, especially the Meritorious Teacher - Artist Dieu Duc and Meritorious Artist Bach Long. Besides, there is a cast of young and promising actors: Pham Hung, Kan Le, Huu Dat, Minh Sang, Ngoc Nguyen, Thanh Anh, Pham Hanh, Truc My... with the support of the group of actors from the Smile Children's Theatre.

There will be more than 200 period costumes designed and produced specifically for this drama.

The cast and artists participating in Under the Beauty’s Shadow truly came together through fate and destiny. For example, the cases of Meritorious Artist My Duyen and Hong Anh. The two female artists both came from dance and became famous from feature films during the golden age of “State” cinema.

The two met and worked together on the catwalk of the Duyen Dang Viet Nam program, breaking the mold in the famous Bikini play (Two-piece Killer), then later on in TV drama projects (The Apple Tree Blooms) or hundred-billion-dollar movies (Glorious Years) and of course many plays at the Idecaf Drama Theater.

According to the crew's first revelations, in Under the Beauty's Shadow , Hong Anh will play Thuy Kieu and My Duyen will transform into Dam Tien - a character considered a ghost of a previous life, a mirror of Kieu's fate in the original work.

Besides Hong Anh and Meritorious Artist My Duyen, the return to drama also brings back many memories with artists Thanh Thuy, Hoang Trinh and Meritorious Artist Dai Nghia, when these famous artists once appeared together in the ancient play Secret of the Lychee Garden.
