People's Artist Thế Hiển (born in 1955 in Nam Định ) passed away on the evening of October 1 after a period of treatment. His illness suddenly worsened on September 30. His family took him to the 175 Military Hospital (Hanh Thong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City). Despite being treated by a team of dedicated doctors and nurses, he passed away, leaving his family and colleagues in mourning.

Musician Bao Huy, son of People's Artist and musician The Hien, announced the sad news tonight.

After suffering a stroke in September 2024, People's Artist and musician The Hien's health rapidly declined. In addition to the stroke, he was also diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer with brain metastases.

For over a year now, he has been unable to walk normally and his voice is hoarse. He has to rely on relatives to help him with his daily activities.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diem - Deputy Head of the Arts Department of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee - said: "As if by instinct, we discussed visiting him before the Anniversary of the Theater Founder. This morning, after attending the reunion of artists contributing to support compatriots affected by the Storm and Flood, a number of artists visited him at the 175 Military Hospital . Looking at his condition, we understood that time was only a matter of hours, but we still hoped for a miracle that he would recover better and return home, but the miracle did not come many times."

Musician People's Artist The Hien received a gift from the Mai Vang Tri An program organized by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper with the support of Nam A Commercial Joint Stock Bank.

People's Artist and Musician The Hien's full name is Lai The Hien, born in 1955 in Saigon, originally from Nam Dinh. In 1977, he studied intermediate vocal music, then worked as a singer at the Bong Sen Song and Dance Troupe - Ho Chi Minh City. During this period, he composed many songs and was known to the public as a young, dynamic musician.

In 1982, he began his composing career, his first work "When the Balloons Fly" was well received by the audience.

Since then, the name of People's Artist and Musician The Hien has been associated with dozens of famous songs of many genres such as: "Nhanh lan rung", "Hat ve anh", "Toc em doi ga", "Cho du co di noi dau", "Doi cho trong con mua", "Dau cau hoi", "Nhong nhong nhong", "Hoang hon mau tim", "Vuot lon minh"...

Throughout his career, he wrote about 250 articles, published about 150 of them and has no intention of stopping. The royalties help him live well, without bothering his children and grandchildren.

Thế Hiển was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist for his role as a singer in 2012. Last March, he was awarded the title of People's Artist.
