Myanmar declares state of emergency, calls for international aid

According to foreign media, Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing visited a hospital in the capital Nay Pyi Daw, where injured victims are being treated after the disaster.

Myanmar authorities have not yet released official information on the damage. However, because the earthquake only had a depth of 10km, the impact could be very strong.

In Thailand, the capital Bangkok has declared a "disaster zone" after suffering serious damage caused by earthquake aftershocks from its neighbor.

The Bangkok governor has been tasked with coordinating the emergency response. At least two people have been killed in the capital region, according to the latest reports.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced his readiness to provide all assistance to Myanmar and Thailand.
