(Dan Tri) - Not only did he graduate with excellent grades (GPA 3.73) 6 months early, Nguyen Chi Thien also has a rare achievement with 3 prestigious international publications ranked Q1 and 1 school-level topic.

Breakthrough from the second year: The journey to conquer scientific research

Nguyen Chi Thien (born 2003) has made admirable achievements in studying and researching at the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH). Coming from the sunny and windy land of Phan Thiet, Lam Dong, Thien entered the university with a thirst for knowledge .

Since his second year, Thien has joined the research group of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong, Dr. Vu Minh Canh and MSc. Pham Hoang Ai Le with a research topic on surface thermal conductive materials.

His first project on surface thermal conductive materials helped Thien hone his skills and confidently present at conferences such as the IUH Euréka Awards and the IUH Young Scientists Conference 2023.

The male student shared: "My initial difficulty was that I had to study and do research in the lab at the same time, so my skills and experience were very limited. However, I think the most important thing to succeed is effort, hard work, and especially enthusiastic help from lecturers and colleagues."

Along with his research, Thien continuously won the school's scholarship in most semesters, and also won a business scholarship right from his first year. This was both a recognition and a motivation for him to pursue further research, especially in the field of EMI shielding materials - a new research direction with great potential for application.

"Above level" achievement: 3 Q1 announcements before receiving the degree

Thien's persistent efforts have helped him achieve 3 Q1 international publications (1 main author and 2 contributing articles), a rare achievement for a university student. Q1 is the world's leading prestigious journal in science.

Not stopping at publication, Thien also actively spreads research results at many major conferences: Young Science Conference 2023 (Oral & Poster Presenter, Excellent Poster Award), IWAMSN 2024, National Inorganic Chemistry Conference 2025 and SCPC 2025.

In particular, the Euréka Award - Student Scientific Research 2023 is an important milestone, marking a strong step of maturity on the male student's academic path.

In addition to domestic research, Thien also reaches out internationally through internship programs and conferences such as: JST Sakura Science Program - Japan (2024), Summer University - Ural Federal University, Russia (2025) and World Atomic Week - Russia (2025).

With an impressive record of achievements and a serious learning spirit, Thien achieved a grade point average (GPA) of 3.73/4.0 and will receive his diploma 6 months early at the upcoming graduation ceremony, with excellent results.

Reaching the world and planning to "go straight" to doctorate

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong, Chi Thien's instructor, commented that he is an excellent student, always showing a serious and passionate spirit of scientific research.

He believes that this success is not only the result of a serious research process, but also a testament to Thien's outstanding ability, helping the male student approach international scientific research standards.

"The achievement of 3 international publications in Q1 is a clear proof of his research ability. We are very proud to have a student like Thien. He is not only excellent in research but also inspires many other students," Mr. Cuong added.

Sharing about the future, the young man from Lam Dong said: "I am completing my scholarship application to study for a PhD abroad."
