TASS news agency reported that Mr. Shoigu met with Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and SCO+ conferences on security issues.

“We are ready to expand cooperation between our security councils. We continue to monitor the practical implementation of top-level agreements,” the Russian official said.

According to the former Russian Defense Minister, both Moscow and Tehran hope to soon sign a new inter-state framework agreement and "are completing the necessary procedures for its signing between the presidents of the two countries."

Mr. Shoigu assessed that Iran's accession to the SCO has created more opportunities to expand cooperation among members to form an indivisible common strategic security institution and a fair multi-centered world order.

The increased Russia-Iran cooperation comes as Western countries continue to accuse Tehran of transferring weapons to Moscow for use in a special military operation in Ukraine. The US recently imposed sanctions on Iran in connection with this allegation.

Accordingly, Washington put Iran Air on the sanctions list, as well as imposed restrictions on a number of other citizens and legal entities of the Islamic country.

Meanwhile, also on September 10, Germany, France and the UK also issued a joint statement accusing Iran of transferring ballistic missiles to Russia "is an escalation and a direct threat to European security".

Germany, France and Britain will take steps to cancel bilateral air services agreements with Iran and call on Tehran to immediately stop all support for Moscow in its conflict with Kiev.

On the Ukrainian side, President Volodymyr Zelensky pledged to do everything possible to ensure the international community reacts strongly to any force that helps Russia or prolongs the conflict between Kiev and Moscow, although he did not mention Iran.

In response to the above accusations, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said these were lies and propaganda.

Mr. Kanaani said on page X, emphasizing that "the publication of false and misleading reports about Iran's arms transfers" to some countries is simply a form of propaganda to cover up the fact that the US and some Western countries are providing weapons for the war in Gaza.
