Do Thi Phi Dung (2010), a 10th grade student at Hiep Duc High School, is currently living with her parents and younger sister in Hiep Duc commune, Da Nang city.

Despite her poor family background, Phi Dung always tries to study and dreams of having money to pay for her parents' medical treatment so that she and her sister can continue to go to school.
Despite her poor family background, Phi Dung always tries to study and dreams of having money to pay for her parents' medical treatment so that she and her sister can continue to go to school.

My father, Do Ngoc Hung (born 1970), has knee osteoarthritis, which makes it difficult for him to walk. His legs are limping, so he cannot do heavy work. Although his condition is getting worse and the doctor advised him to go to the hospital for treatment, Hung refused because he did not have the money for treatment. In addition, he also has cataracts in both eyes, which he has just had surgery for and is in the recovery phase.

Phi Dung’s mother – Ms. Dang Thi Ha (1977) suffered a stroke and has been paralyzed on one side for the past 7 years. Because his wife is bedridden and unable to do anything, despite having many illnesses, Mr. Hung still has to work hard to take care of the whole family.

The family’s sole source of income depends on a sow raised by Mr. Hung. Every 4 months, piglets are sold for a litter. When the price is good, each pig can be sold for about 500,000 VND, but when the price drops, it is only 200,000 VND/pig. In addition, the family has just been given a cow by the commune to improve their economic situation .

Phi Dung’s younger sister, Do Thi Thu Hien, is currently in 2nd grade and is in poor health due to congenital tricuspid valve disease. Hien has had three heart surgeries sponsored by the government. Although her condition has improved, she is still weak and cannot do strenuous activities. Every time the weather changes, she has difficulty breathing and often faints. Hien’s small dream is to have her parents organize a birthday party and receive gifts, because she has never had a complete birthday since she was little.

Mr. Do Ngoc Hung could not hide his emotions when he witnessed his daughter's simple wish come true - to celebrate her birthday and receive gifts.

The family of four has three sick members and an unstable income, so life is always difficult. Vegetable meals are the family's regular menu. Seeing her father's hardship, Phi Dung wanted to quit school to go to work to help, but because she is still young, she cannot do much. She also understands that studying is very important, so she always tries hard every day. Phi Dung's biggest wish is to have some money to treat her father and mother's illness and for her two sisters to continue going to school.

At the studio, the Vietnamese Family Home crew unexpectedly prepared a cake and held a birthday party for Do Thi Thu Hien, fulfilling the wish that she had longed for. Seeing the frail girl celebrate her first birthday, along with the prayer for her mother's health so that the whole family could be together for a long time, moved many viewers.

Mr. Do Ngoc Hung, who has single-handedly supported his family through many difficult years, could not hold back his tears when he saw his little daughter in simple joy. He burst into tears, both happy and sad at his daughter’s prayer for the family.

MC Dai Nghia could not hide his emotion when he saw the little girl who had to undergo three heart surgeries at such a young age. He shared: “Looking at the little girl's sparkling eyes when she blew out the candles, I felt a pure joy that she had never had before. But behind that smile was a painful journey for both her and her family. The Vietnamese Family Home not only brought a birthday party, but also an opportunity for the family to feel the sharing from the community .
