A representative of Viettel Group said on the afternoon of September 28 that the network operator has deployed synchronous measures to ensure the safety of telecommunications infrastructure in provinces affected by storm Bualoi (storm No. 10) and its circulation. The VNPT Group's Disaster Prevention Command has directed VNPT in the affected provinces and cities to immediately deploy plans to respond to the storm and the heavy rains causing flooding and landslides.
Previously, network operators had assessed provinces and areas likely to be affected by the storm's circulation, forecasting heavy rain to ensure on-site response plans in landslide, flooded, and isolated areas.
Weather experts said the storm will move along the coast from Da Nang to the north, forecasting that by 4 p.m. on September 28, in the sea area of Nghe An - Quang Tri, the strongest wind is forecast to be at level 12 - 13, gusting to level 16. Keeping its direction and speed of 30 km/h, the storm will then enter this area, causing a level 4 natural disaster risk.
Viettel Group has deployed comprehensive response measures to protect the network and ensure stable service for customers. In 10 coastal provinces directly affected, Viettel has organized a review and inspection of base transceiver stations (BTS), prepared thousands of generators and backup fiber optic cables; at the same time, reinforced all antenna poles, reduced the load, fixed the cable lines, upgraded the transmission source and added batteries at the stations to increase resilience in case of grid power outage.
To support the Government's command centers and provinces in carrying out information response and search and rescue work, Viettel has prepared satellite telephone systems, mobile broadcasting vehicles and special solutions such as drones to connect fiber optic cables through areas isolated by floods and landslides.
To date, more than 470 information response teams have been mobilized from all provinces and cities across the country, ready to support the provinces most severely affected by Typhoon Bualoi. These teams are organized into specific specialized groups such as BTS stations, fixed broadband and electromechanical, ensuring quick and effective handling.
In addition, Viettel applies artificial intelligence (AI) to operations, continuously updates network status, and displays it clearly from commanders to direct staff, helping to significantly reduce troubleshooting time, with average service recovery time 30% faster than before.
To support people, Viettel has planned to send warning messages to more than 8 million customers in affected provinces, advising people to fully charge their devices, prepare food and water, check for safe places to live and limit travel during the storm to ensure personal safety and maintain uninterrupted communication.
“Viettel will continue to deploy solutions to support customers with communication packages and free charging points according to the actual situation in the provinces. In addition, Viettel offers a 20% discount to customers who top up their cards in the storm-affected provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, and Hue, with a scale of 3.3 million customers, and postpones one-way blocking for postpaid subscribers to ensure communication. Viettel's customer care system has also been supplemented with additional staff to receive incident information and support customers 24/7,” said a representative of Viettel Group.
For goods transported during the storm, Viettel Post has taken measures to raise and move them to higher places to avoid flooding and water seepage. Customers will be notified of the status of their orders and the possibility of delays due to the storm.
"Assessing this as a strong storm right after storm No. 9, so the damage could be great, Viettel has now prepared a plan 4 in place to respond to storm No. 10," said Lieutenant General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group.
Previously, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) sent a telegram to the departments of science and technology, postal and telecommunications enterprises, requesting them to proactively respond to storm No. 10. Telecommunications enterprises reported and updated the list with the locations of BTS stations that can withstand level 4 natural disaster risks to the department of science and technology, to report to the provincial civil defense command; directed branches in the provinces to use satellite equipment to ensure communication for command and control when the public network has problems.
