Palworld game developer is ready to 'sell itself'

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên17/03/2024

According to Gaming Bolt , Palworld is probably the biggest surprise in the gaming industry so far in 2024. The survival game launched in early access in January and within just 1 month, it attracted more than 25 million players across all platforms.

This confirms that Pocketpair, the developer of Palworld , has made a strong mark. So, what are their plans for the future? Is this Japanese indie game studio looking for a new 'landing'?

Game developer Palworld says it is open to acquisition offers

In an interview with Bloomberg, CEO Takuro Mizobe spoke about the possibility of an acquisition. He said that while Pocketpair is happy to operate independently, they are “open to considering offers for collaboration or acquisition.” Interestingly, however, Mizobe also confirmed that the game company is not currently in any talks with Microsoft, nor does it intend to become a public company.

Regardless of Pocketpair's future, Mizobe insists the company will remain a small studio. The developer has previously admitted it's severely understaffed. While he's looking to expand to support Palworld , Mizobe says he still wants to create more small games. "Big-budget AAA titles don't suit us," he says.

There’s no doubt that Pocketpair is an attractive acquisition target in the industry. With a budget of just $6.7 million, Palworld has already earned the developer tens of billions of yen in profits.

Palworld is currently available in early access on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC, and Pocketpair is also in talks to bring the game to other platforms.
