According to Neowin , the report said that this cyber attack was designed to target an issue in the MOVEit software program. CISA Assistant Director of Operations Eric Goldstein said that they are providing assistance to a number of federal agencies that have had their systems compromised by hackers through a vulnerability in their MOVEit software, and affirmed that the agency is working urgently to understand the impacts and ensure timely remediation.

Hackers have targeted a vulnerability in MOVEit software.

So far, there has been no official comment from CISA about which US government agencies were affected by the cyberattack. There is also no information about whether sensitive US government files were taken. CISA Director Jen Easterly told NBC News only that the hackers responsible for the attack were "a well-known ransomware group."

Many experts believe the attacks came from CL0P - a hacker group based in Russia. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and CISA issued a warning about CL0P last week after the group claimed to have discovered a vulnerability in MOVEIt and was ready to exploit it to attack systems through the software.

CL0P itself has also claimed responsibility for cyberattacks on several governments and businesses by exploiting this software vulnerability. Some of the victims identified by the group include employees of the BBC, British Airways, oil giant Shell, the US state governments of Minnesota and Illinois, and many others.
