This is the sharing of Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duong, Deputy Head of the Trade Promotion Capacity Development Department, Trade Promotion Agency ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), at the September trade promotion conference, with the theme Digital transformation in trade promotion: Improving competitiveness, expanding global markets and promoting sustainable cross-border import and export, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the afternoon of September 30.

According to Mr. Duong, the Trade Promotion Agency is coordinating with many large platforms such as Alibaba, Amazon, TikTok... to implement the Vietnam National Pavilion program, supporting Vietnamese businesses in building brands and exporting online.

Preliminary results show that more than 50% of participating businesses have received orders, with an average value of tens of thousands of USD.

However, the challenge is that the digital capacity of most Vietnamese enterprises is still modest, from international booth operation skills to cross-border logistics management.

Increasingly strict requirements on traceability, environmental standards, labor standards, etc. make it impossible for businesses to rely solely on the advantage of low prices, but are forced to invest systematically to survive and develop.

The Department has been coordinating with the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy to develop a set of indicators to assess the level of readiness for digital transformation in trade promotion, applicable to three groups: Government promotion agencies, support organizations and enterprises.

“This is a tool to help identify strengths and weaknesses, thereby building a support plan that is accurate and meets the needs of each target,” Mr. Duong emphasized.

The Department also focuses on training practical skills for businesses, from operating booths, livestreaming cross-border sales, to applying AI in advertising and analyzing consumer behavior.

Every year, thousands of small businesses and cooperatives have accessed these programs, seeing them as a launching pad to improve their competitiveness right from the digital platform.

Ms. Lai Viet Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that along with completing the policy framework, especially the Law on E-commerce to be submitted to the National Assembly next October, the Department has deployed many solutions to support businesses.

Typical examples include maintaining and developing the Vietnam Export Portal, building a digital export support platform, and implementing the Go Export program to support businesses in building brands and participating in global e-commerce platforms.

Ms. Lai Viet Anh recommended that the Vietnamese Trade Office system abroad increase information sharing on digital consumption trends, customer behavior and popular e-commerce platforms in each market, while supporting Vietnamese businesses to connect with the local digital ecosystem.

Enterprises need to proactively research laws, commodity standards, invest in brand building, apply digital technology in management, logistics and product traceability.
