However, in the eyes of many people, they are "wind and frost flowers" with persistent love.
At the beginning of the month, an old friend, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Sau (originally from An Nhon) shared with me the clip “Suot ca doi”… which he made himself. It is a simple film, recording the images of the women and mothers of the land busy making a living.
After retiring, he became a youtuber as a joy of old age. Meeting hard-working mothers and grandmothers, he sympathized with them so he took pictures, filmed and edited them into videos , as a thank you to the women of his hometown.

The video shows scenes of the early morning at the construction site, when lime dust still hangs in the air, each hammer blow echoes loudly. Small women, wearing conical hats, patiently knock down each old wall. One pulls a pulley to lift the bricks up. Another bends her back pushing a cart of materials over a bumpy plank. Another sits for hours meticulously cutting floor tiles.
Construction workers are not only hard workers but also have many potential dangers. They work at heights and carry heavy loads. Yet in the clip, they seem patient and graceful, mastering every movement.
Or at An Nhon fruit wholesale market, when many people are still fast asleep, women are already there before the rooster crows, bustling with buying and selling. They quickly load bundles of sugarcane, bunches of bananas… onto their vehicles. The sound of three-wheeled vehicles and motorbikes loaded with goods echoes in the early morning mist.
Their shoulders were drenched in sweat, but their eyes were still bright with hope, hoping for a favorable market day so they could have some extra money to send their children to school and to give their families a decent dinner.
In the countryside somewhere in Phu Cat and Phu My, women also start their day at dawn. They go to the fields to plant rice, pull beans, and pick corn. Whether it is a pouring rain or a blazing sun, they still work hard in the fields. Many women also take on extra jobs such as street vendors, dishwashers, kitchen assistants, etc., hoping that their children will study hard and their elderly parents will have enough food.
Those rough, wind-worn hands still cherish life. Those thin, heavy shoulders still support the whole family. And amidst all the hardships, they still keep the faith that when their children grow up, all hardships will pass.
Sometimes, looking at the faded shoulders of women, we wonder: Why does life place so many burdens on women? However, they themselves rarely complain. They silently struggle, both worrying about making a living and fulfilling their responsibilities as wives, mothers, and children.
I know that in the trend of gender equality taking place on a global scale, the role and position of women today is very different from before. They can fly into space, can be pilots flying fighter jets across the sky, can be submarine navigators in the deep ocean...
But lastly and most importantly, we must mention the womanhood. It is irreplaceable. Because even though society has changed a lot, it is the perseverance and sacrifice that are the eternal beauty, creating the miraculous strength of Vietnamese women.
