On the afternoon of September 12, Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn visited RMIT University Vietnam (South Saigon campus). The delegation included Mr. Pham Hung Tam, Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia; Ms. Gillian Bird, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam; Ms. Sarah Hooper, Australian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City; and Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
As soon as the delegation arrived at the school yard, RMIT University Vietnam students prepared an impressive performance to welcome them.
Governor-General Sam Mostyn used his phone to film the performance and had a quick chat with the student who choreographed the performance.
For the first time meeting and talking with Governor-General Sam Mostyn, many students used their phones to capture this special moment. It is known that RMIT University Vietnam has more than 12,000 students and 1,300 lecturers, currently the largest campus of an Australian university abroad.
During the visit of the Australian Governor-General, RMIT University said it will invest 25 million Australian dollars (equivalent to more than 430 billion VND) to promote research and innovation activities, including expanding the doctoral training program in Vietnam to strengthen the transnational educational cooperation with Vietnam over the past 25 years.
The postgraduate research program will be led and implemented by RMIT University Vietnam in collaboration with local industry partners, focusing on research that supports the country’s ambitious goals in education, science , technology and innovation.
Responding to a quick interview with students, Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn said: "Education is at the heart of the Australia-Vietnam relationship. It is wonderful to see that cooperation clearly present on campus today. Australian educational institutions are present in both countries and can contribute to promoting deeper and broader two-way connections."
Dang Thi Thuy Dung, a student majoring in professional communications, smiled and said: "I feel very honored and happy to have the opportunity to interview Ms. Sam Mostyn directly. At first, I was a bit nervous and nervous, but then I felt very proud. Before leaving, Ms. Sam Mostyn also gave me a friendly, special hug."
Ms. Peggy O'Neal, President of RMIT University Council (center) and students presented a commemorative painting to the Governor-General of Australia.
