African countries thank Russian President Putin for doing this

As promised by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Central African Republic (CAR) has received 50,000 tonnes of grain free of charge from Moscow. CAR President Faustin-Archange Touadera expressed gratitude for the assistance on June 1, noting that Mr. Putin’s promise had been fulfilled.

“During the Russia-Africa Summit, he announced his readiness to deliver grain free of charge to the Central African Republic, which is currently suffering from the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine. We have received these donations, President Putin’s promise has been fulfilled,” Touadera said in an interview with Russian media on June 1.

“And we want to thank him for that. The people of the Central African Republic are very grateful,” Mr. Touadera emphasized. According to him, this decision has helped stabilize the price of wheat flour in the Central African Republic.

In March this year, the world's poorest country received 50,000 tons of free grain from Russia, as humanitarian aid.

In the capital Bangui, Russian Ambassador to the Central African Republic, Alexander Bikantov, took part in a solemn ceremony to hand over the grain in the presence of President Touadera, members of the government and members of the host country's National Assembly .

“The ambassador stated that this humanitarian aid once again demonstrates Russia’s readiness to provide assistance to friendly African countries, including the Central African Republic,” the Russian Embassy in the African country said.

President Putin made the decision to provide aid to the Central African Republic and other African countries during the 2nd Russia-Africa Summit, which will take place in St. Petersburg in 2023.

In addition to the Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Mali, Somalia and Eritrea each received 50,000 tons of grain aid from Russia.

Free grain is one channel Mr Putin uses to strengthen ties with a continent of 1.3 billion people that is increasingly influential on the global stage. The 54 African countries form the largest voting bloc at the United Nations and have a significant influence on the outcome of resolutions in the 193-member UN General Assembly (UNGA) .
