Mr. Tran Dinh's family in this river section had nearly 40 fish cages swept away by the flood and his family initially lost nearly 10 billion VND worth of fish of all kinds. Mr. Tran Dinh said that his family has been raising fish in cages on this river section since 2009. Up to now, his family has 56 fish cages on the river. Each fish cage has dozens of tons of fish of all kinds such as: black carp, common carp, catfish, river catfish... Because of long-term farming, each fish weighs on average 4-5kg/fish, many fish reach 15 to 20kg with black carp.
Mr. Dinh recalled that on the night of September 30th and the morning of October 1st, within just a few hours, the river water here rose 4-5m higher than normal, the strongest ever. The water not only rose but also flowed strongly, causing trees and timber from upstream to fall onto the fish raft. Because his family's fish raft was upstream, the strong current swept away and broke nearly 40 fish cages. Although before the storm, his family had strengthened the ropes and reinforced the family's fish cages.
However, due to the strong and swift currents, his family lost hundreds of tons of fish. Seeing the fish rafts in ruins, his family felt like they had lost everything after years of raising fish and saving. His family only hopes that the authorities will have mechanisms and policies to support his family to reduce the damage caused by natural disasters and storms.
Faced with the situation of high water level and strong currents that pose a potential risk to many households raising fish on the river, right next to Mr. Tran Dinh's fish cage, the local government has coordinated with relevant agencies to mobilize forces to inspect and at the same time propagate to households raising fish in cages on the river to take measures to strengthen reinforcement to ensure safety for people and property in fish cages.
