Trump nominates Fox News host as defense secretary

According to RT , US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Fox News host and former National Guardsman Pete Hegseth as the next US Secretary of Defense.

“I am honored to announce that I have nominated Pete Hegseth to my Cabinet as Secretary of Defense,” Trump said in a statement reported by Fox News on November 12.

According to Mr. Trump, the nominated US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has spent almost his entire life in the National Guard and the US, and described the Fox News host as tough, smart and believes in the goal of America first.

Pete Hegseth (44 years old) is the host of Fox News' "Fox & Friends Weekend". Previously, he was a captain in the National Guard who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

After being discharged from the army, he started hosting TV shows in 2014 and is working for Fox News.

Mr. Hegseth was born on June 6, 1980, in Forest Lake, Minnesota. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Princeton University, New Jersey, in 2003. In 2013, he received a master's degree in public policy from Harvard Kennedy School, Massachusetts.

After graduating from Princeton University, Mr. Hegseth joined the U.S. Army National Guard. In 2004, his unit deployed to Guantanamo Bay, then Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mr. Hegseth has been awarded two Bronze Stars for his service overseas. He ran for the Senate seat in Minnesota in 2012, but later withdrew.

In addition to hosting for Fox News since 2014, he is also the author of the book " The War on Warriors: Behind the Betrayal of the Men Who Keep Us Free".

At Fox News, Mr. Hegseth participated in the network's primetime analysis and commentary programs.
