Pacific Airlines returns unused slots when flights are suspended

Pacific Airlines will refund unused slots during the suspension, but please keep the history of these slots for next season when the fleet is consolidated.

This information was provided by Pacific Airlines when sending a report to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

From March 18, Pacific Airlines must return all aircraft due to failure to reach an agreement with the lessor. According to the plan, the airline said it will return all unused slots during the suspension period and remaining slots based on the flight schedule plan when there are 3 dry-leased aircraft from Vietnam Airlines . This return will be no later than March 26.

However, in the near future, Pacific Airlines will lease 3 aircraft from Vietnam Airlines to maintain the minimum number of aircraft - a condition to maintain the Air Operator Certificate (AOC). Therefore, this airline proposed that the Civil Aviation Authority consider allowing them to keep the historical slots with return landings and takeoffs, to use in the following seasons when the Pacific Airlines fleet increases.

At the same time, the low-cost airline also proposed to allow them to have a mechanism to pay and receive slots during this period, to effectively use the slots operated by Pacific Airlines.

The airline also confirmed that customers affected by the suspension of Pacific Airlines flights have been transferred to Vietnam Airlines flights, and so far there have been no complaints from customers.

Pacific Airlines is the first low-cost airline in Vietnam. Founded in 1991, Pacific Airlines was established with state-owned shareholders.

In 2007, Qantas Group bought 30% of Pacific Airlines shares and the airline changed its name to Jetstar Pacific. By 2012, the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) had transferred 68% of its capital at Jetstar Pacific to Vietnam Airlines. By July 2020, Jetstar Pacific returned to its birth name, Pacific Airlines.

In the first quarter of 2022, Vietnam Airlines received 30% of the shares donated by Qantas, so it holds nearly 99% of Pacific Airlines' capital. The airline is making efforts to restructure and look for potential investors, and will take off again as soon as possible.
