Preventing African swine fever during Lunar New Year 2024

Currently, there is a vaccine to prevent the disease. However, this is a new vaccine, so many farmers are still concerned about the quality of this vaccine, have not yet deployed the injection or have injected it but are not sure about the effectiveness of disease prevention. Therefore, to prevent African swine fever from spreading into the area, in the coming time, livestock facilities need to implement some of the following specific measures:

1. When there is no disease

- For large and medium-sized livestock farms, strictly implementing biosecurity measures in livestock farming is the most effective disease prevention solution.

- For small-scale farms and household livestock farming, regularly implement good hygiene, disinfection and eradication measures to destroy pathogens, including African swine fever virus.

Clean and disinfect farm workers, equipment and tools, do not share tools between barns. All forms of transportation, trading, slaughtering and consumption of pigs and pork products of unknown origin are strictly prohibited.

2. When a disease occurs

Promptly inform commune, ward, town veterinary staff and local authorities when detecting pigs and pig products suspected of being infected with African swine fever.

Destroy all infected pigs, dead pigs, and pigs that test positive for African swine fever according to the instructions of the veterinary agency. Isolate the epidemic area to apply specific and appropriate technical solutions for epidemic prevention. Do not treat sick pigs or pigs suspected of having African swine fever.

Carry out general cleaning and disinfection once a day for the first week, twice a week for the next two weeks. Stop transporting pigs and pig products, including cooked products, from places where pigs and pig products have been confirmed positive for African swine fever.

Organizations and individuals engaged in pig farming must declare to the local authorities before raising, re-herding, or increasing pig herds according to the provisions of the Law on Animal Husbandry. Strictly implement vaccination of all types of vaccines and organize the construction of disease-free livestock farms according to the regulations of the veterinary industry.
